So far, I've got Howard, Dempsey, Bradley, Donovan and Altidore.
    Who do you have?

Pretty much agree with Barry. Those 14 guys seem like locks then after that is when you can start to debate between guys.

I'll go along with Zusi. He's been tremendous. Don't know about the rest. I think they're all up for grabs at this point, though I do think Beasley and Gonzalez have a leg up on many of the others. Beas may be a lock, also. Jermaine sure seems to be, just because Klinsmann loves him so much, and he hasn't done anything to hurt his chances. I want to see more of Cameron at mid before I pencil him in. His small size sample, while very good, isn't enough to put him on just yet. But he certainly seemed better and more effective there than in the back, didn't he?

Time will tell, and it's gonna be a while.

The fact that Cameron can play CM/CB/LB/RB and does them all better than most people at those spots should make him a lock for the World Cup. You need roster flexibility when it comes to tournaments as you don't know exactly who will get hurt or pick up cards.

    {I had to dig deep to find this thread, rather than start a new one. }

How about Matt Besler. I agree with Barry on him.
Perhaps he's what we once hoped Chad Marshall could be.
But Besler will need playing time in friendlies
    After all, confidence is key..

I think Besler already earned his ticket. He's our Aaron Hughes. He's an excellent partner to whoever they put next to him. Ideally, you'd like Gonzalez to be that guy, but he's all over the place and I think he's our #1 defensive weak spot. I'd prefer Cameron to replace Jones as Bradley's midfield partner, but both are certainly going to Brazil. So, here's my locks for the 23:

Howard, Guzan, Besler, Cameron, Beasley, Deuce, Donovan, Eddie, Jozy, Bedoya, Bradley, 'dolo if fit

The more I think about it, the center of defense is causing me lots of concern. It could very well be the weak point in our squad. To that, I wonder if JK doesn't shuffle the deck a little and put Cameron back there. It's probably not where we'll get the best of him, but I think our overall squad is better with him on the back line. Whether he plays alongside Besler or Omar will depend, I guess, on performances the first half of the year.

I guess, in the end, it comes down to which is a bigger potential liability? A Besler-Gonzalez backline or a midfield with Jones?

Not so sure about Bedoya and Besler (although Besler certainly should be, IMHO). I think Jermaine's a lock simply because Jurgen likes him so much.

    Besler is a lock.

Cameron is a lock, but will he play CB or RB (I wish we had solid guys in those roles so he could play CM, but he is going to end up at RB or CB).

Wish I had thought to ressurect this topic sooner, but, hey better late than never. Sadly, as it turns out, Cherundolo was not fit and retired. I think many of us are gonna wish Landon and Eddie were locks if we falter in the group.

I'm already missing Landon, Eddie, and especially 'dolo. It's going to take a very long time to create a two-way threat of a fullback like him.

He will have to sharpen his defensive skills, which will come w/experience, but the time is now HD and his name is 'Fahbian' don't call me 'FAbian' Johnson. Don't get me wrong, he has a long way to go to be put into Dolo's category, but what a great combo of athletic/technical ability.
