Alistair on Craven Cottage: 2 year plan to take it up to 30,000+ and that Craven Cottage can be the antidote to what is going on around England with regard to new stadiums.

30,000 is an intriguing idea, but... how? It seems like there's only so much construction you can do on top of the Hammersmith End before it becomes structurally unsound (not to mention my recollection that it seems to already extend basically to what must be the end of FFC's property). Could you build further back out towards the side of Stevenage Road? Theoretically I suppose but it's already jammed full before and after matches.

I've seen the old planning permission blueprints (I actually posted links to pdf on this site) but there are a couple of options and I know it is definitely achievable as plans are already in place.

Nothing can be done in the Haynes stand but hammersith and riverside are different stories.

Roy asked about Dempsey and why Seol is picked before him:

Seol is an out and out striker but Dempsey is not. Says he thinks Dempsey is a good footballer but Dempsey think hes a very good footballer (with a bit of wit), therefore they are often at loggerheads

I'm beginning to think Roy is not as perfect as I originally thought. He has said some rather blunt and unneccesarily cold things lately.

As far as Dempsey, I wonder if he is confusing the good old American positive attitude for cockiness - some Europeans can distinguish between the two and some cannot.

His honest is something that I admire...not many managers would be so blunt with their supporters. We won't want to be lied to or sold something....I'd rather know what was going on instead of sugar coating all the answers.

As for Clint, I'm sure Roy will give him the opportunities to show he is a better player than he thinks but for now, he has to do that at Motspur Park.

I do find Roy refreshing, even if it's something that you don't necessarily want to hear. Without listening to the context in which the question was answered, it sure sounds like Clint is sitting squarely in the doghouse. I'm sure he'll work hard at Motspur, but barring an injury he's not going to see the pitch anytime soon. From that answer a loan out in Jan. doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility.

I like honesty in a public figure as much as the next guy, but Hodgson has said some things about individual players that he has no need to say. His comments go beyond not "lying" or "selling something". If Dempsey never plays for the whites again, he may go down as that American player who thought he was better than he was. Unless Dempsey is insufferable, I dont think he deserves that label - I've seen the effort he's put forth for Fulham. Odds are at least a third, but probably more, of the players at FFC think they are better than Hodgson does.

I prefer Woy the gentleman of last season.

[quote/]Goal music is the subject of focus groups at the moment. The good news here is that Alastair Mackintosh seems, reading between the lines (there’s a lot of this), to be against the idea as well. He made some commment about kids liking it, but also that he’d never had this at Man City and that he’d like fans to be able to make their own atmosphere. Everyone seemed pleased about the atmosphere at the Cottage, so….

Yet again Mike you are right. Shame on me for not reading between the parentheses (actually I didnt understand them). However, my feelings on this were established before the Dempsey comments - and also based on things taken out of context so I will drop the whole notion.

Like Steve said, thanks for the thread. It is interesting and I'm glad there will be no goal music!

I LIKE goal music. The Crew's is FUN... gets everyone up and punching air. Crew's IS a little too long in getting to the good part.

For Fulham.. maybe not. but it's not bad in every case. I dont want the American game atmosphere to be exactly like Europe.

You're (of course) right and now that you mention it I do remember you posting those links a while back.

Regarding goal music and fans creating their own atmosphere, you have to be careful about how you go about soliciting fan input or you'll wind up with something like this. :D
