i saw the headline and didn't have the heart to read the article on their website. WTF is Lalas doing? Xavier was suspended for cocaine [if I remember correctly], and you're paying him to move to the HQ of drugs?

At least the mama's boy can play, and the pretty boy is very close to as good as he's ever been.

    Stupid; stupid; stupid.

Well if he can still play then ...............

I don't really know what to make of this to be honest. I hope G's aint spending to much money on this cause it could be a real flop.

You think it's an accident that LA picked 'Galaxy' as a monicker.. they probably expected the Mutts to shell out for the 'Cosmos' brand, and if not...

But we all need to remember that, while the Cosmos starpower certainly got the butts in the seats, they still had to play for the title and it wasnt really all that much a cakewalk.

A few stars doesnt necessarily improve the TEAM results.. they STILL have to play as a team.

I think this is a different paradigm, though... if the 'new-hires' help in mentoring and maturing the local guys, it will pay off big.

Will lead to more confidence and the likelihood of playing the ball with vision, instead of assuming the ball's going to go astray after the next guy touches it.

Schelotto {pardon my enthusiasm} is already showing signs of affecting this way.

The more people see established names associated with MLS, the more likely they are to tune in, and thus, realize MLS can produce decent, viewable footie.

MLS has realized that a decade of building its ranks via in-house development of youth doesn't equate with fannies in the seats, or unfortunately, a consistent product on the field. As Petty stated, sprinkle some international players that still have some skill into the domestically grown talent and the level of play should only improve. It's a fine line between NASL economic destruction and continued promotion of MLS, but for the league to continue to grow it must walk the line.

On a side note, does a player have to sport a funky hairdo to sign for the Galaxy?

since LA is a 'Center of Global Pop Culture'.. well....

It certainly seems a magnet for the shallow... that's why Kyle Martino went there.

And nevzster.. Chinagia had the 'starpower' and he didnt help out the domestic players one damn bit. too busy trying to one-up Pele.

Here is a overview of the LA sports scene. First and foremost the Lakers own this sprawling metropolis from LA to Orange Counties to the Inland Empire. However, its also a great baseball area w/both teams averaging over 3.2 million fans annually at the gate. The "pro" football team aka the USC Trojans regularly put 90K in the relic that is the LA Coliseum.

Hockey and Soccer are the sports teams in this area that need starpower in order to get more than the hardcore fan. The buzz when Gretzky came to town was amazing, and the Pretty boy has had the same affect.

While not sure what kind of salary he's getting (on the cheap, only 18 months, and full of personal clauses probably) Xavier is a pretty good gamble. The guy while not a star anymore still has the charisma (and hair) to get noticed. If you saw the highlights vs the Revs the Galaxy could use some help in the back. As far as the drugs go, let's be real, you can score coke in Pocatello just as easy as LA if that's what your going to do.

The Galaxy brass understands the market here and in order to get over 22K at the Home Depot Center they need to have guys like Becks, Landycakes, and the platinum blonde Don King do' wearing Xavier.

I can see the headline on the Galaxy Website..."Lohan's Boyfriend to Suit Up for LA" (they wouldn't play up the son of George Best angle because the only George they know in this town is Clooney). They could have a Posh vs Lindsay mudwrestling contest at halftime of the LA SuperClasico...
Who cares if the guy isn't good enough to even suit up for Exeter if the paparazzi shows up, its all good.
