If there's one thing I've learned through following English football, it's that the British press will publish anything to sell copies. I do love the club's response though. Call it crap and move on.

I don't see how anybody took this seriously in the first place.

Me either. I mean, it's so obviously fiction that it boggles the mind. Mr. Olley is in the wrong business. He should be writing fiction books instead of articles for a newspaper. He (or, more likely, one of his superiors) has a vivid imagination. On second thought, they should stop writing...anything. Such dull, weak drivel...

So the English papers are into producing click bait. Aren't they more like tabloids anyway?

I did like the sentence that included both "there has been no contact between Khan and Spurs" and "Levy has no intention to sell." The story pretty much kills itself right there.

Over here, we have a guarantee of freedom of the press. The other side of that contract is that the REAL press at least tries hard to get the facts right. Over there, there is no such guarantee, and so there is no "other side of the contract" either.

When the Murdoch machine came over to this side of the water, we were conditioned to believing what we were told in print and on television, because we were used to that unwritten contract. Murdoch came straight from Britain where everyone expected his papers -- especially The Sun and The News of the World -- to lie about everything.

So, British press -- doesn't have to work hard, can just lie or add 2 and 2 and make 27. That's why I pay zero attention to Fulham transfers until they appear on the offal. It takes work to get the fact right. Why work when you don't have to?

I was wondering the same thing too. I half expected to see the byline say that it was written by "DC Heather".
