I know we've had some good discussions about Uruguay at 2010 WC (aside from Suarez banter) on the old site, but this is a nice little piece on Scotland v. Uruguay at 1986 WC. http://espnfc.com/columns/story/_/id/14 ... ay?cc=5901 SAF's post-match comments shed some light on his future demeanor.
Thanks for posting Heather, spot on about Sir Alex and his future demeanor. The sport has come a long way in terms of dirty play (probably as much to do with the amount of tv cameras at matches as anything else), but time wasting still needs some out of the box thinking in trying to eradicate.
Yeah thanks for posting the article. Very interesting. I see even back then Sir Alex had no problem speaking his mind. It wasnt just Uruguay in the 2010 WC there was also the 2006 WC with that corrupt Uruguayan official - jorge Lorrionda. Why it is acceptable for an official who was suspended by his own federation for irregularities to referee a WC match I will never know. Then we got him again vs Spain in the Confederations Cup along with that horrendous red card on Bradley that prevented him from playing in the final. My answer for time wasting - stop the clock.
