Ain't gonna happen Nev. Even if "The Italian Up the Road" wins four trophies for The Undead this season, he'll be gone next summer and Guus will be singing "Blue is the Color" in Dutch. That's who the Russian gangster wants; that's who he'll get.

I don't know how I feel about this. Based upon results and stats I have trouble complaining about Bob on the job. However, after halftime the other day, Denmark came out and we made them look like Brazil. Other than the results, I cant see what Bob brings. He seems uninspired, mechanical - I dont want to be critical but it's hard to relate to him. He could use some help.

I know its a pipe dream, but I'd love for GH to tutor El Bob for a few months. And plus, if the US had Hiddink you can bet some of the infamous, bs calls that routinely fall against the US would be reduced bc GH would demand int'l respect

I'm sure he declines an offer, but it's a negligent lack of effort if the US doesn't even try to lure him.

Slaven Bilic should be available soon.

I like him, but no way is that a good match. Our puritanical belief system would be shocked!

hey, wait a minute ... a USMNT manager who sings and plays guitar in a rock 'n roll band?

    Now THERE's an idea.

Why would anybody want Bilic? He failed miserably during this world cup campaign and got completely slaughtered by England not once, but twice. Croatia have a decent squad of players and he couldn't even get a playoff place.

Scolari is a guy we should consider. He has a world cup title and took Portugal to a semi final for the first time in 40 years. He's clearly not a club manager, but he's a damn good international manager.

What are you talking about? Croatia didn't make the playoffs because they had the misfortune of playing England twice before England already qualified.

The only reason Ukraine beat England was because Capello put out a JV team in Dnipropetrovsk because they were already through.

If Ukraine and Croatia were to switch schedules, Croatia would've been in the playoffs and not Ukraine. There was only a one point difference between them.

They lost by a combined 7 goals! I'm not sure a jv team would make much of a difference.

And didn't they bomb during the Euro last year?

I'm both right and wrong. They won every group game, but failed against Turkey in the qrts. The group was pretty weak though.

No, they lost on penalties after giving up the equalizing goal in the dying seconds. After scoring the go-ahead goal moments before that. Was truly incredible.

And Scolari, although maybe what the team needs tactically and skillwise, would NEVER work with the USSF. For one, he's an egomaniac that makes Mike Lupica seem like a nice guy.

Second, he makes over $20 million a year. NO WAY Gulati pays him a fraction of that.

    I like the thought though!

Any top manager is going to come with a huge price tag. They can keep bringing in people like Bradley and Arena or they can pay top buck for a quality manager. 20m is way too much and I forgot he was making that much. Scrap that idea.

I wonder if Trappatoni will be available. Ireland shouldve beat Italy both times and should he heading to South Africa. He's a very defensive manager though which is a negative. I think this is something that we can realistically pursue of he were to become available.

Let's face it... this is all 'hot stove league' stuff. aint nothing gonna change, nohow.
For US, the deal was sealed when the team got into the Confed cup final.
Why dont we just exert pressure on BB to add McBride to the squad?

That's something that actually MIGHT happen.. weird as it would have seemed a few months ago.

I'm going to type this very slowly so that the "the USMNT manager must speak English witn an accent" crowd can get it.

A foreign manager is not going to take the time learning about and watching the MLS-based players to develop a decent sized squad. Bora was our last foreign manager to make a difference and he did it during a time when there was no domestic league and the USSF basically created a year-round USMNT. That's not going to happen anymore.

Bob is able to supplement our European-based players with decent MLS-based players because he knows the league like the back of his hand. That's why we get guys like Holden selected. A European-based manager is going to know very well the quality of the European-based players, but NOT those guys still playing at home. Hate Bob all you want, but his expertise in fielding MLS-based players has ensured us of actually having the 20 best healty American players going to South Africa in our squad of 23. I don't think ANY European-based manager would be able to do that.

I also think it's a little bit like piling on when Bob's tactics or whatever is question because he loses matches where he's basically trying to assess who #s 19-23 are going to be on that squad, and while his three best players [Donovan, Dempsey, and Howard] are home with their clubs -- and that's 4 best if you include Cherundolo.
