Hello, London!

    I'm taking a moment or two out from worrying about our flooding situation in SA to be concerned about the flooding of the Thames that's all over CNN this morning.

    Aside from general concern about England and the English, I'm getting to be seriously worried about the Cottage. How's the ground and the neighborhood in relation to all this flooding going on? Someone who lives around there please give us an update.

    Aw come on guys; what effect is the widespread flooding of the Thames having on Craven Cottage and the immediate neighborhood?

    Hi Don,

    The Cottage is in the tidal section of the Thames and is protected by the Thames Barrier. The ground is above the normal height of the river at high tide by about 6-10ft and so it would take a considerable downpour before it was threatened. The opposide side of the river is more prone to flooding as there are no river walls on the Putney strech of the river.

    The places that have been on the TV are all in the Thames Valley area rather than London. The flooding that happened in London is more due to a torrent of rain the fell and swamped lower area because the drainage system is 200 years old and cannot cope.
