Hello all! I'm a Fulham supporter, as well as a Columbus Crew supporter.

I never had a side for the Premiership until McBride went over to Fulham. Well, I've been getting more and more into it over the past year (I was pretty casual fan until then).

Happy to be here, hope to make it to the Cottage some day!

Welcome aboard CottageCrew!! You picked a good team. Did you choose Fulham only based on McBride? You will find a lot of friendly Fulham supporters on here. Some have become supporters because of McBride and Bocanegra, while others like me have for one reason or another picked Fulham. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the site!

McBride was certainly the spark to bring me in. But once I picked up on Fulham, I began to read up on the Cottage, which has me really interested (I love old stadiums).

Oh, feck ch*lsea and all that.

CC, SpencerYou know, I get up to the Twin Cities on business almost every month. Chance of a pint and a moan about the blue poo when I'm up there some time?

I haven't tried the pubs on the list yet, he said hintingly?

Sure thing, I'm not of the legal drinking age. But I can have a pint of Sprite!

I often watch mid week FFC games at The Local in downtown Minneapolis. Must be different on the weekend but during the mid weeks its a ghost town there so a fellow Fulham fan would absolutely be welcome.

    Omigosh;

I'd just assumed by the tenor of your posts that you were a grizzled old vet like myself. :3d funny:

I'll p.m. you when I'm on my way up next and let's see what's what.

Interesting that my posts gave that impression. But as FFCinPCB pointed out in the "FFCinPCB love MLS" thread, I'm an overexuberant young lad.

Yes, like the HHH Metrodome. :D I hope the Twins and Vikings can get a new stadium sometime in the near future...I don't like watching Twins games there.

I forgot to say: Welcome to the site!

Welcome CottageCrew, so were you living in Columbus at one point and thats how you became a crew fan?

Speaking of the Cottage, I'm sure you read the piece on our front page regarding the history of house in the corner. Hopefully you get there one day, its one cooooooool place.

The Twins are getting a new stadium, target to open is 2010.

As did the Minnesota Golden Gophers (What looks to be a fantastic 50k horseshoe on campus), target opening 2009.

Vikes are still up a creek.

As far the metrodome, I'm tailgating the day they implode that dump.

Yep, I lived in Columbus from 1997 to 2002 (well, technically 2001, when I left for school). But I've kept with the Crew.

I did read that story, quite interesting. I definitely hope to make it there some day.

Is this an indoor or outdoor stadium for the Gophers?

It is an outdoor stadium. Maybe after it opens we could get a national team game or two up here. Nice thought anyway.

Personally I don't get the fuss behind college sports. Part of what I love about sports is the business side of things and movement of players. This is particularly interesting in the world of soccer.

Hooray! I didn't know about the Twins stadium.

I read somewhere...either in the newspaper or ESPN.com...that all of the models and sketches used to get Legislature approval for the Gopher stadium are scraped and a total new design will be introduced later this fall...something about changing architecture firms. I guess it will still be a horseshoe design, but other than that will look nothing like any of the drawings/models already released. The new drawings will come in October or so.

Ah ha! here's one article about it. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2475625

    Sorry for hijacking the thread.

If Minnesota is opening an outdoor stadium for the Golden Gophers, I will make the trip to watch them play when it opens. I would not make the trip for the Metrodome, but an outdoor stadium I could.

I've seen perhaps a dozen games in the Hump over the last 20 years, and I found it a rather interesting place. As Valentine Michael Smith would say, "it has it's own face."

Remember the reason the Twins built it in the first place. Many of their fans come from a distance to watch the games, and would be discouraged by the wonderful weather MN is heir to. They've always drawn wonderfully there. Similarly, the Gophers had the best of both worlds: a downtown venue that was also almost on campus.

Building the bseball park has nothing to do with the aesthetics of the sport, or the joys of sitting outside at a World Series game in 25 degree temps. It has everything to do with more luxury boxes, increased profits, and to hell with the fans. The Twins are well on their way to AL domination over the next 5 years. We'll see how much revenue they'll lose in April and late September as the years go on.

Similarly, it'll be interesting to see how the Gophers will do in the Big Ten playing outdoors in December, and how well they'll be able to recruit in places farther south. I love the Twin Cities, but the weather is lethal in the winter and folks don't want to spend 3.5 hours sitting outside in the elements watching college kids.

It won't matter, though. The people who built the stadia will have been paid, the people who have brokered the deals will have been paid, and all of the luxury boxes will have been sold. And the taxpayers will foot the bill.

One of the things that the President of the university has been wanting to see in the new stadium has been sightlines for soccer and football. So I would guess that we may see a USNT game in Minneapolis.
