    Headline of the day...

    DYSASTER
Newcastle certainly had a bit of a shocker in Lisbon last night, crashing out of the UEFA Cup with a 4-1 defeat to Sporting, much to the dismay of Kieron Dyer, who had put them in the lead, reports the Daily Mirror.

    Hold the back page...

    TOON LOSE THE PLOT
To make matters worse, they now face Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final this weekend with injuries and suspensions ravaging their squad, as the Daily Mail report.

    UNITED REVOLT
Not that their rivals are much better shape psychologically. The Sun report on the power struggle at Old Trafford, but it's Carlos Queiroz, not an evil American dwarf, at the centre of the row. United players are apparently angry that the assistant was allowed to pick the bizarre team for last weekend's defeat at Norwich.

    CARLOS SEMI IN CHARGE?
The Daily Mirror also have that story, and they also claim that it is an EXCLUSIVE. If Queiroz really was in charge last weekend it certainly won't have done his chances of replacing Fergie much good...

    GLAZER: UNITED NEED ME
Perhaps this guy could takeover instead? The Daily Express, whose Harry Harris seems to be slightly obsessed with Malcolm Glazer EXCLUSIVES. Apparently the tycoon reckons that his deal would save the club from stagnation.

UNITED COULD BE TEMPTED BY GLAZER'S NEW ?800M BID
The Independent report on the takeover bid, saying that the United board could well decide to support Glazer.

LIVERPOOL-CHELSEA CLASH WILL SWING THE EURO-SCEPTIC VOTE
The Daily Telegraph report on the parallels between the Champions League semi-final and the General Election. It's not just the red and blue colours seemingly...

GLORY AND HE'LL STAY, SAYS JAMIE
Jamie Carragher tells the Daily Mail that if Liverpool beat Chelsea, Steven Gerrard will stay at Anfield instead of moving to Stamford Bridge.

    WE DON'T NEED YOU GERRO
However, the Daily Star claim that "Steven Gerrard was last night told by Liverpool: We can cope without you." We doubt they actually put it like that...

    Other top stories...

LET'S DO A JUVE ON JOSE
The Sun report on the 'premi-final' of the Champions League, with Xabi Alonso hoping to get revenge on Chelsea for the three defeats the Blues have inflicted on Liverpool this season.

    WHY GERRARD CAN'T BE SEMI-DETACHED
But will Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard be focusing on beating the team most people reckon he'll be playing for next season? The Daily Mail ponder this troubling issue...

THERE'S A HITCH IN RAFA PLAN FOR FINAL
The Daily Express analyse whether Liverpool are fated to win the Champions League. After all, the last time they did it in 1981, Prince Charles got married, as did Ken and Deidre... It's only going to get worse when the real build-up starts, so get used to it.

    LAMPARD WANTS TOP 20 HIT
But don't worry, Frank Lampard isn't planning a singing career, he just wants to score 20 goals this season, reports the Daily Mirror.

TERRY AND LAMPARD DUEL FOR INDIVIDUAL HONOURS
He will be up against team-mate John Terry in the battle to be named PFA Player of the Year, reports The Times.

JOL BACKS DEFOE AS KIDS KING
In The Sun, Martin Jol makes the surprising claim that Jermain Defoe should be named PFA Young Player of the Year because he doesn't play for a good team like Chelsea, Man United, Middlesbrough or, erm, Man City...

WHY UNITED ARE A CLUB THAT DO NOT NEED SAVING
The Indepedent give their view on the Glazer saga, perhaps unsurprisingly coming to the conclusion that United should remain 'independent'...

    GIGGS REOPENS UNITED DEAL TALKS
The Guardian report on the news that Ryan Giggs is still hoping to agree a new contract at Manchester United.

    RIO: I'LL MOVE ABROAD
The Daily Star report on Pini Zahavi's claim that Rio Ferdinand could move abroad in two years. Very tactful, coming so soon after that 'accidental' meeting with Peter Kenyon.

    WE'VE NOT GIVEN UP
In the Daily Mirror Ashley Cole insists that Arsenal fans deserve to see them win the FA Cup and that the Gunners haven't given up on winning the league yet.
