They've been after him to re-up since the season ended. I think he may be on his way out -- perhaps to QPR. Remember when everyone thought the players hated Hughes? Hmmmm, Zamora, AJ, and next ... .

He will be sold should he not re-up. I only wonder if he has a valuation/release clause?

Provided we can bring in a replacement, I won't be surprised to see him depart in January. If not, then most likely he'll go on a free at the end of the year and that would be a shame. Given the cb's at some of the bigger clubs over the last 4 years, it's a bit of a mystery how we've held on to him this long.

Thee fact that we were actively seeking his replacement in the summer transfer window is a clue for me

There is a reason why you never negotiate during the season. No doubt he has been affected by the contract talks. Fans will say he's 'making tens of thousands per week, I'd play for free, the contract shouldn't be a factor, blah, blah, blah', without looking at the big picture. This is their job. Anyone is going to be affected in their workplace if you are talking to the boss about even staying with the company. Brede is a professional and surely is working as hard as ever, but he's been playing poorly, and the fact he has to get on the phone with his agent all the time ain't helping.

Given their constant injuries at CB, I could see this happening...especially if they've made the knockouts of the CL.

Good to have him on board for more years. But we still have be looking for some more youngish CBs in the summer.

Huge. So much pressure off worrying about having to replace him.

Signing the extension is no guarantee he won't leave, he just won't do so on a free. Glad to see the club offer more than one year. Maybe the times are changing?

Kelly got a 2 or 3 year contract in the summer and was gone in January. The contract is guarantee of absolutely nothing other than he'll be a Fulham employee when the season ends.
