anyone know the final score? thoughts from the match anyone who may have listened or heard about it? I heard Kamara scored at the end of the half. From the descriptions on the club's home page it sounds like Simon Davies was busy. What's up w/ Que starting?

The offal has a brief summary of the match and the starting lineup was.

    Niemi

    Baird, Knight, Hughes, Konchesky

    Davies, Davis, Brown, Quedrue

    McBride, Kamara

Not a bad lineup and a good result for Fulham.

That looks like the lineup Sanchez would like to go with, but for Queudrue on the left.

Dempsey, because he probably doesn't defend as well as Simon Davies, looks to ride the bench.

I was interested to hear that Franck played LW. I'm still baffled as to who is going to play there once the season starts. The 1st half lineup provokes some other discussion: No Liam? No Deuce? Baird at RB instead of CB (others can speak to this better than I, but I had gotten the impression that CB was his better position)? Not saying I agree or disagree with any of these choices, but they at least deserve mention.

    2nd half lineup:

    Warner

    Volzy, Pearce, Boca, Liam

    Deuce, Diop, Smertin, Timlin

    John, Healy

Just a quick word of caution....don't read too much into lineups and results right now with these preseason matches. A lot can change between now and August 12th. It is obviously nice to see the lads get a positive result, but don't think the lineup is already set in stone by Lawrie. He is working on combinations and seeing how players do with one another. I expect a different lineup on Saturday in Hong Kong.

Funny you should mention that Lyle, a Saints fan I work with said the same to me this morning. I told him he would probably be a CB and he was surprised as he's good there but better as a rB. He also said he can play a holding midfielder role as well...wonder how Sanchez sees him.

I'm intrigued to see if Healy can make an impact...I'll be pulling for him to do well as he has showed his talent at the international level.

agree with ChiTom [two up]; There's no way that the lineup he started is the one you'll see at the Emirates. Football is all about chemistry, and LS is got to see who plays well with whom. I'll bet you that Macca plays next to every forward LS has before the pre-season is over, and that every possible MF combination is in force.

That's cool. I guess you can get the inside scoop even if you live in Texas. I forgot where I read it, in some English publication or on some messageboard. It's not in the Guardian article I linked.

According to the Paul Doyle Guardian article the logical starters up front are Kamara and McBride because of Kamara wanting to play off a "big" forward. Healy doesn't fit that bill.

My hunch is that McBride will end up not starting and it'll be Kamara and Healy or maybe even Kamara and Collins John.

I think McBride will be given every opportunity to start week in and week out this season. However, unlike past seasons, if he is not scoring goals and is in a slump, others like Healy, Kamara, John and perhaps even Helguson will play in his place.

I tell you, seeing a totally different lineup each half was encouraging in regards to our depth. When Bullard is back, we'll have some serious competition in the midfield (actually, we do already). And if we continue to have injury problems like last year, we should have a decent set of players to turn to. I'm cautiously optimistic at this early stage!

I think you're right, but I think Sanchez is dreaming about a Kamara/Healy partnership.

The glaring hole on the squad is a need for a couple of left footed players.

I agree that with Lyle that LS is looking to a Kamara and Healy partnership up top for the future, but I believe McBride will get the majority of the starts this campaign. The fans and players love McBride's work rate and I believe LS recognizes that.

Isn't this the side that just drew with Man Utd? I'm sure they put more of an effort in against the Mancs, but it is still a promising result. The depth in this season's squad is fantastic and I can't wait for opening weekend.

    Good to get a win.

Don't we already have a right back, two of them in fact?

wouldn't it be reasonable to think that Healy and John would get several starts this year to rest BMac...i mean i love me some BMac but he is getting older and the pounding of playing as many games as these guys do during the year takes a toll on the older guys much more than the younger lads.

how sweet would that Healy/Kamara pairing be if Bullard was in the hole behind them sliding through balls to them and they make runs into channels? Can't wait for this season and can't wait for Jimmy to get back to full strength.

Steven Davis may turn out to be better than Jimmy. Having both of them available will be great though.
