Hello chaps, I'm going to live over in LA for 3 months. I have a course to take in October and can stay for 90 days with my visa.

I'm looking to live in Venice Beach/ Santa Monica as the course is there and hopefully pick up some work while I'm there.

Can any of you offer advice for me? I know about craigslist which for jobs and houses but any other advice would be great.

More importantly, are there any of you who meet up to watch the matches? Naively I'm hoping I'll still be able to catch some of the games on TV albeit at silly times of the day....

    Hi Jack,

Welcome (in advance) to Los Angeles.

Venice / Santa Monica is a great area. SM is definitely more expensive, but both are quintessential Southern California.

Craigslist is a decent place to start, especially for a short term lease. I'll see if I can find any other resources. LinkedIn is a good bet for a job, depending on what you're looking for. What field are you interested in?

As for watching matches, TV rights for the Championship belong to BeIn Sports. They only show 2-3 matches a week, though, so Fulham's appearances are few and far between. I'd certainly be in for a meet up to watch when we do land on the Tv schedule. There are a few other folks here scattered across LA and Orange County.

As for football in general, there's a good pub in Santa Monica, Ye Olde Kings Head. I was there a number of times in our premier league days and it's open early and draws a decent crowd.

Happy to provide any other advice/help. Feel free to hit me up.

Welcome Jack! Tim hit all the best points. Our get togethers were a lot more frequent back in the day when finding the boys on tv was easy (even if it meant going to pub at 7 am). Unfortunately most match days in the Championship are spent listening to Gentleman Jim or waiting a couple of days for the club's official site to show a replay. If you are on Facebook search for the group 'California Fulham Fans', it was put together by an ex-Pat who lives in Irvine (also named Jack). He put together a match viewing last season at a pub.

Thanks for the responses. Okay, thats a shame about the matches. I was thinking the night matches would be doable.

In regards to work, I'd initially be over on a tourist visa so I don't think I'd be able to get a "proper" job to be honest. My hope was to pick up some bar work and then try and get myself in a situation where a company would sponsor me for the 2 year work visa so really if anyone knew of any pubs looking for staff that would be great. I will of course be calling around myself before I head out there.

@tim if you could find anything else regarding short term leases that would be great. Looking to move in with someone ideally as I know no one!

Anyway, thanks again guys, If any of the matches work while I'm over there I'll try and arrange a drink up somewhere.
