From 'Dave N' a poster on The Fulham Independent: My first-ever posting, although I'm a regular reader. This Saturday is a red-letter day for my 9-year old son, Ben. Ben's an obsessive Whites fan and has been a junior season ticket holder since he was 2! In July 2004, he was knocked down by a drunk driver on Putney Bridge after the pre-season friendly against Rangers. A harrowing few days followed, as he was in intensive care at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital with suspected brain damage. To the relief of us all, once the brain swelling went down, it was clear that he had fractured his skull but there was no permanent damage and he has since made a full recovery. He was amazingly brave throughout - the only time he cried was when they had to cut off his favourite Boa shirt to attach the monitors to his chest! FFC were also brilliant throughout and arranged for him to spend a day at Motspur Park as Boa's guest once he was up and about. This Saturday, Ben's greatest dream will come true as he leads the team out as mascot, with the whole family there to watch. His only minor disappointment is be that Boa's suspension means he won't holding his hero's hand. Anyway, please give him a big cheer! One question.... Ben was deeply affected by the outpouring of feeling over the death of the great JH - he watched all the TV footage, sung his heart out at the Liverpool game, added his prized club cap to the floral tributes at The Cottage and insisted we put 10 - HAYNES lettering on the back of his home shirt. He really wants to wear this shirt on Saturday as his tribute. What do people think - insensitive/unacceptable or touching? I go with the latter but don't want to upset anyone. Please let me know. COYW. David In my opinion, let Ben wear the Haynes 10 shirt and I'll be yelling for him from NY.
Sounds like quite a nice touch. Yeah, he should wear #10 proudly. Ben survived his car accident; Johnny ultimately didn't.
