Hmm...some time away from home. This move might be good for him, especially if he plays in the middle where he likes.

Not sure who DC will get with the player allocation.

Not sure what to make out of this... How long will Adu stay? Is Freddy going to Real Madrid and playing for RSL on a loan deal? Is RSL use Freddy to get their stadium? All questions I have that I hope will be answered.

It was a trade. RSL received Nick Rimando and Adu for Jay Nolly, a major player allocation ("Beckham rule"), and future considerations.

IMO, DC made out pretty well. Adu will be gone come summertime, but RSL will probably get some of the transfer money (most going to MLS probably and some to DCU).

I really think this is good for all parties involved.

yep...good for RSL because this will help in the bid to get public support for a stadium. they know he won't be here for long...so they're using his name to generate some support for the stadium. i don't think he'll become a part of Real Madrid...although it could be a possability. highly unlikely though, unless he completely dominates this year.

Pretty shocking, was to me anyway. I think Nowak has been holding him back so I like the move.

I don't think it was Nowak per se. I think there was no way he was going to start in his favored position over Gomez. He just kind of did his thing on the wing, but he wasn't excited about it. He really looked bored and not that committed out there at times.

I wish Freddy luck, and hope he grows and matures into a player the USMNT could use.

Jeff Cunningham led the league in goals last season...it'll be interesting to see what impact this will have on him. Season tickets coming right up!!!!

Agree on that point but it seems to me Nowak has always had a bias against him. In the last playoff game Adu was the most active DC player on the pitch, yet Nowak pulled him of in the 60'. For what?

I'm not sure Nowak had a bias against him, maybe. It was puzzling he was removed in the playoff game against NE. I didn't get to see the entire game, but from what I saw and read about the game he was one of the most (if not the most) attacking players out there. But the entire team was throwing everyting but the kitchen sink at NE with nothing going in. Who knows what Nowak was thinking?

I'm not convinced Nowak had a bias against him. Nowak is the head coach of DC United he's going to do whatever is best for the team to win. And that includes playing or not playing Adu.

I did not see the game, but if a 17 year old runs his proverbials off for an hour in the premiership I would expect him to be subbed to, with a pat on the back.

Don’t forget he is a kid who has not finished growing yet. He may look like 'the dude' but the cartilage in his knees are still underdeveloped, too much too soon will destroy him.

I don’t like Mr Ferguson, but a parallel can be dawn between Freddie and Ryan Giggs. Sir Alex bought him on slowly and it allowed him to develope physically and mentally.

Overall, I consider Nowak and DCU to have treated Adu exactly right, and if we could query Sir Alex {I'm pretty sure he's been watching CLOSELY!}, I'd bet he would say the same.

Now Nowak can concentrate on building his team instead of shepherding the MLS big pay-off.
And Adu can build a little enthusiasm for soccer stadium and attendance in Salt Lick.. err.. Lake.

    Win-win.

By the way, have I mentioned I not only can change and delete what's written above a user's avatar, but if one is shown at all?

How long are you going to torture us?? If you'd done that at Abu Ghraib....
