While watching the Fulham vs Chelsea match of 4/23/06 on FSC today...what I came away with, was we need a new goalie.... Both of the two goals that I have seen so far, have been goals that I thought could have, should have, been stopped...

I must say, that I love the way Joe Cole plays.....even if he plays for the wrong side...

I aslo understand after seeing John play in this game, the reason for getting rid of him, as he seems to me at least to be a player, who played for himself, and not for the team.....

The Defense while at times looked okay (that the best I can say) seems slow..and doesn't play aggressive... I understand Fulham was on the road but......

Fulham after tying the match in the first half, should have come out much more stongly at the start of the second half. They had everything to gain and nothing to lose and just looked to my first impression, to be almost afraid to win.......Fulham just didn't seem to be playing as a team.

Finnaly I love the way the Ref's don't get in the way of the game, but allow the play to continue. The flow of this game (back and forth) was excitng to watch, without the constant stoping of the play like in the World Cup or even the MLS.......

Third goal made the D look real, real bad.

Am I way off base, or at least on the pitch with my first impression?

Check out the post "Fulham on FSC". I had a little different take than you, but not completely different. While I became a Fulham Fan in Spring of 2005, I didn't become active until last year. Still, you will see a different team than what you watched today, or at least I certainly hope so. I'll look for your follow up post on "Fulham on FSC".

We have a good keeper in Antti Niemi who was not playing during that 2005 match. I wish they would show the March 19, 2006 match when Fulham beats Chelsea!!

I will say this for the newer supporters of Fulham....they are not going to be lovely to watch every match. They will have their moments of good and bad at different times in the year. They will get you excited one week beating Chelsea for example and break your heart the next week drawing against Villa and then losing at home to Portsmouth. That is one of the many joys of following this team.

If there is one lesson to remember with Fulham it is to expect the unexpected.

Seems to me that the 'keeper in the match today was Van der Sar. I don't think we've had a better one in my memory.

I was being mindful of my manners and not pointing that out earlier. Although, Van der Sar was extremely out of position on the second goal. Not sure what he was watching, but it wasn't the ball.

I appreciate the kindness, but if I am wrong, please tell me, for how am I too learn if I am not told?

I still believe though, that the goalie could have at least gotten a hand on the first goal and should have stopped the second. He just didn't seem to be alert on the second goal. Cole's goal though was a thing of beauty.... The third goal (he meaning the goalie) didn't have a chance......
