The Mighty Whites return to league action on Saturday at home to floundering Blackburn Rovers. Kickoff is 10 eastern [9 central]. Once again, FSC is too busy with their "all Newcastle all the time" programming to feature us, but perhaps those wok-on-the-wall folks will get some coverage over Setanta.

Blackburn have had a shorter mini-revival under Big Sam than did Spurs under Harry. Their last time out they blew a two-goal lead in the last 10 minutes to draw at home with Citeh. They're strong and robust in their front line with Jason Roberts -- who we used to be linked with twice a year -- and a rejeuvenated [but somewhat bloated] Benni McCarthy as their front two. Falling star Morten Gamst Pedersen still roams the left wing, but their only real consistent performer has been Bret Emerton. He's likely to give Konchesky a headache or two.

On defense, Rovers have been easier than a Valley Girl convention, and they fully deserve their 19th place position. Were it not for our most toothless and least ambitious outing at their place, they'd be in 20th, and Paul Ince would have been fired a month earlier. We really have to make up for that.

Rovers had the last FA Cup tie, but didn't feature a single starter until the 60th minute when Keith Andrews and Roberts came on to secure the win at Blyth Spartans. So none of their first-string players will be tired or injured from the tie.

As for us, we're looking for our 10th league match without a loss, and we're strongly in form. New dude Etuhu almost took a section out of the crossbar at Hillsboro last Saturday, and Dempsey and AJ were in terrific form as was our defense. According to Roy's post-match interview, Z-bird might be having some back problems. If that continues, look for Nevland to take a larger role. Aside from missing a sitter, he turned in a good shift against Wednesday ... on Saturday.

    I'm looking for a good ass-whupping. Fulham 3 Blackburn 0

    What say y'all?

3-0 just sounds difficult against a Big Sam team. Blackburn have been known to give us fits. Of course, their missing the main reason for that.

    1-0.

from the looks of it, we're not on tv. at all!

hopefully there's a feed out there...

I can forsee Big Sam wanting to play a tough physical game and come away from the match with a point. Hopefully Roy will go for the jugular and we'll stomp all over this side.

Its rather tough to tell at this point.

Don, why do they call an FA Cup match a tie? Makes no sense. :D

    :D Boom Boom LOL
I think we need to score as many goals as possible-get that goal average up as the league is so tight I can see people going down on goal difference(just like last year) we need to stay as far away from oncoming madness that is the relegation fight-been there done that 8)
I'll go for 3-0 to the Fulham as well,we need the goals against these teams to keep us out of trouble

A little concerned about our health for this one. Sounds like Jimmy is still out and Bobby Z's back might be a problem. I would love to see another bashing like the Boro game, but a 2-1 win will still give us a vital 3 points.

    I'll go with 2-0.

Dempsey will have a hand in at least one of the goals, either with a goal or assist. Take your pick with the second.

Anyone heard if Jimmy is over his "illness" yet?

Uh-oh, Rob Styles is the referee. Hope Murphy doesn't pick up his 5th yellow for some uncommitted offense.

Paul Robinson sucks so badly I almost feel sorry for him. He's let in almost a goal every 2 shots he's faced, so shoot on sight.

From your lips to Bully's ears -- assuming he's playing. Physioroom.com lists him as returning this week.

A generous defense, a poor keeper, Santa Cruz having a subpar year, a midfield that scares no one, and Big Sam as manager. 1 out of 5 ain't bad, I guess. Sam is the only reason to worry about this team, and at the Cottage, that ain't going to do it, or at least that should not do it.

No prediction for a score, I am the mad jinxer there. But I'll say that a clean sheet is very likely for Brede and co., they are just better than Blackburn's midfield and strikers this year, period.

Big Sam and Blackburn are usually good for a mugging, ugly draw. But this is in the Cottage, Freidel no longers tends their net, and RSC has been awol since Ince left. Plus we're still on our game. 2-0 Fulham, w/o Bullard and BobbyZ. 3-0 with them.

It might be a win rather than a draw because it's a home match and Friedel is gone, but it will still be ugly and we will still be lucky if none of our players get hurt.

I'm feeling Fulhamish about this game for some reason. Reading through this, it makes sense that Fulham would beat Blackburn.

But as the Devils displayed last night, on a given night you can look awful against an awful team and the results going to what'd you expect: a loss.

Fulham really needs to score first and set the tone of this game, if only to get this feeling out of my throat. That's what I want. Oh, and 3 points.
