England lost once again against a second string South Africa team in Rugby Union. They have been conistanltly poor. Most of the problems can be blamed on the manager. The team lacks passion and several key players are being played in the wrong place. Once again after the match, head coach Andy Robinson refused to resign - even though he is inept and totally incompetent.

The reason, I assume, is that he has no honour and is waiting to be sacked, so that he recieves a massive payout - regardless if it is really damaging to the national interests in the sport.

Is he right? Sven resigned after the world cup and is still being paid £1 milllion (approx $1.925 USD) by the FA. Should these men be taking money for a bad job? Are they entitled to it because of the limited people in the associations who made the original deals? Are there similar comparisons in US sport?

Generally speaking, if you "resign" over here, your contract is void. There's usually a cash incentive to get people to resign, but folks who resign generally do so in the hopes of another job elsewhere.

If you're fired, you continue to fulfill your contract until you get a job elsewhere -- sort of like alimony.

A few years ago we had a pointy-ball league called the USFL, and several of its top stars were signed to "personal services contracts" with the owner. This meant that if the team or the league folded, the player would still get a contract. I haven't heard of these contracts being signed in the last 10-20 years though.

Surprised to hear that SGE is still pulling down his salary. Of course, he has secretaries to support, so ...
