Also, don't forget that a White is hard at play on the Owls' squad. Mark Crossley, wish we still had him.
We'll try this again; the bit bucket got it a minute ago. Crossley played a blinder; robbed Vassell of a hattrick and it wasn't his fault that City won. Old Folks still has the moves. Simek was good throughout. I don't think he's ready for the Prem yet, but he may be there. He's bulked up a lot since his Arse days, and the fans gave him the "USA! USA!" a few times which always makes me smile. Great cup tie today. By-the-bye, one of the streamers at the bottom of the screen said something to the effect of: "Brown wants the Whites in a Wembley final." So do I, Mr. Captain; so do I.
Less than 30 until the Hatters try to book their arrangements for the weekend Don, will you be following play-by-play via soccernet?
I've been checking in periodically, but what with the transfers and the injuries I only recognize 4 players in the starting lineup. Hoping they can pull it off though. There's been some memorable FA Cup matches there, including the match against Liverpool [ended 4-7 as I remember]. I'd like to watch that sort of matchup again Saturday morning. We'll see. By the way, for those who've only experienced vicarious EPL struggles, here's a little taste of life "down below." Luton started the season playing very well and were in the playoff slots almost from the beginning. This was after debts caused them to sell their best striker to Derby during the summer. But as results turned against them, they began to slip down the table. As January hit, the board could have made a purchase or two to stabilize the team for a run at promotion next season. Instead, the board decided to cut payroll. So ... this month [instead of looking for a player or two to take them back up the table, the Hatters instead sold their two best midfielders and their best remaining striker, as well as letting their on-loan goalie return without an extension attempt. While we Cottagers are thinking about top 10 and round 5 of the Cup, down below ... . I spent lots of years in "the other half." Some of the veteran White supporters can sympathize, I'm sure. Whining's over; back to Soccernet. Up the Town and Come On You Wycombe Wanderers!
See Don, no worries mate. Hatters had it in the bag from the start, even though they waited until the own goal at 90 from an ex-Cottager. Too funny.
"Oi ear da soun a flew-un town/fah-a-why, fah-a-why!" * And the crowd goes mild! * [I hear the sound of Luton Town/far away, far away] -- terrace version of Jim Reeves' "Distant Drums" enthusiastically butchered by the Oak Roaders in my day.
Well, I was perusing Yanks-Abroad's English weekend preview and found this bit of info about Blackburn Rovers: "Rovers have not won in 20 prior trips to Luton, and the hosts hold a 2-0 advantage in FA Cup clashes." Who knew? Well, then; Up the Bloody Town!!!!   At least the Hatters are on FSC this month! 0630 CST, [Saturday]
I'll be watching. Give us a breakdown HatterDon. Who to watch, what to expect. The spotlight is all yours. (Which I hear you entertainment guys like, especially those with LSD, or Lead Singer Disease. Oh, you thought maybe that meant something else).
The players I'd normally be telling you to watch are starting for Derby Co., Sunderland, and Birmingham City. I think I know more about Marseille's Center Back than I do about anybody in that version of black and white. There's likely to be a few new signings on the pitch; they've signed some folks from Wherethehellistthatstan, as well as welcoming back Matthew Spring from Watford. The guy I'll be most interested in checking out will be Sol Davies. Back in September or October, the guy suffered a stroke on the team coach to an away match. We went from "never walk again" to "never play again" to being back in the starting lineup by late January. I don't expect any great things out of him, but if he weren't in an unfashionable team in an unfashionable town in the CCC, Brian Gumble's producers would be all over that story. Glad you'll be there to lend support, dude.
Half time report: god, that's ugly. Last year at home to Liverpool I was almost hoarse from the shouting. Mike Newell still wants to play attractive fitba, but he's got no players left -- either from injury or transfer. Shakey on defense, invisible in midfield, clueless at the front. The house is about 1/3 full -- a huge crowd in round 3 against L'pool last year -- and it's full of critics. The Hatters are down 0-2 and don't look like coming back. Well, looking on the bright side, perhaps now they can devote all their attention to being relegated. full time report -- crowd 5500 - about a thousand of which came from Lancashire. Got a little better in terms of committment, but Friedel was never troubled and the most effective defense against their attack was the linesman's flag. 0-4, and it was nowhere that close. I need me a good Stoke ass-kicking to cheer me up. COYW
