Was talking with my daughter's step Grandfather at her game this weekend and he was curious about any FA Cup results I knew about. He spends half the year here the other half near his beloved Plymouth Argyle team). I've always equated the FA Cup w/the NCAA B-Ball Tourney (the cream usually always rises, but the 'little guys' take down some big boys on the way). I did have a question on finances that he didn't know the answer. Besides the obvious gate receipts, do teams recieve extra TV revenue for each successive round? or is it like playoff structures here where the further you go each player gets a bigger bonus?

As far as I am aware, there are no payments made for progressing through the rounds. Each team gets half the gate recipts, after that teams split the money for any match that is televised, it does not go into a pot and is split.

The insentives for the smaller teams is that they get Man U at old trafford (half the gate recipts for that will keep a 2nd division club afloat for 2 years), and there is more chance of being on TV.

    FA Cup Payments to Clubs

The FA Cup sponsored by E.ON
    Season 2006/07

The FA distributes prize money and broadcast payments to clubs for their participation in The FA Cup.
