Though I have been a Crew fan for 11 seasons now, I've always found it pretty difficult to work up a real good "HATE' for any of their rivals. At first we were all sure it was DC, cause that's who seemed to always knock us out of the playoffs. And I caved before most, once Arena left and they became mortal again. Then it was the Fire... but though the F@$$@g wannabe hooligan punks who went by the "Ultra" moniker tried real hard, they still only came across as punks. And the Team was pretty neat. Not to mention the 'BarnBurner' section made great atmosphere. And they proved 'mortal' too. So... to find a team to REALLY hate; one that you didnt feel sorry for when they were down... In fact made you want to run up and kick them even if they were curled up in the dying fetal postion... legs twitching in the involuntary death convulsions preceding rigor mortis and exuding the stench of decayed lung tissue as they rattled out their last gasps. This team would have to have the same arrogance as the virgin Chivas USA, coupled with new management that had been selected despite an unproven or failing record, and ownership that would be arrogant enough to fire a genius coach... because he didnt fit their template. In other words, the MLS equivalent of the mid-sixties-on Cleveland Browns. Or if you want to be a little more current.. the Dallas Cowboys after firing Jimmy. Ladies and Gents, boys and girls of all ages, I suggest to you.. ta-da... the 2006 Los Angeles Galaxy! heh! Oh, and that was aired just before they got hammered by a team that hadnt won a game in like 20 games, right? With Crew castoff Jeff Cunningham burying them deep with a brace. And two hours after Kyle's trade-in, Ned Grabavoy, coming off the bench to get past three defenders and nail in the game-winner unassisted. .- It's SO much more fun to hate freakin' LA Galaxy, than it ever was to hate DC or the Fire! - But I feel sorta like I'm kickin' a retarded dog when I do that... but then I think they learned absolutely NOTHING from Chivas' "We'll show you futbol" arrogance.. so I say "Ah, screw it"... but then i think, oh well... "LA base all belong to us" Sometimes it just so hard to be good... Another Crew fan on the issue:
