Can't say I'm excited about the prospect of Eriksson coaching the UN MNT. I'd much rather have Klinsman.

    Oh...boy.

I'm...not really excited by this. At least the USSF is doing something, I suppose?

I would rather us hire Klinsman or Pekerman, although Id rather see Sven then any MLS coach other then Novak.

Here is a great soccernet article about why Sven should not be the USMNT coach:
    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/st ... us&cc=3888

Basically, the author states that Sven is poor both tactically and organizationally and that England's record during his tenure was due to good talent overcoming poor management. He's also a walking PR timebomb with all his affairs and the fake sheik business. There are far better choices out there. In my opinion, there are probably few worse for the US job. He's probably not as bad a manager as all that, but he is the wrong person for this job.

I agree with martin...I would rather have ALMOST ANY MLS manager than SGE; though Nowak is far and away the best choice.

The guy is a putz, and I dont think it's just for his primary responsibilites.. you could make a case for that, but rather it's the intangibles.. there's a bad vibe or odor, take your pick.. that follows him around.

The excuse is made that it's the fault of the British Press, I dont think so... a case of "it takes two"!

I think most of Sven's bad reputation as a manager comes from the Press and the high expectations the English fans have. Eriksson may not be good enough for England but for the US Id say he as good as the MLS coaches. BTW I think Brazil's coach had the worse World Cup not Sven or Bruce.

My problem with SGE at the WC had to do with selections. He chose two injured strikers and backed them up with a kid he'd never seen play. He left two or three proven England strikers back in Old Blighty. It wasn't his fault that only three players played very well, but the team he chose was all his responsibility.

See your point about Brazil's tactics, though.

God, I'd rather have Bob Bradley or Dave Sarachan then Sven any day. Not that I'm a fan of the first two choices. I'd even be up for someone with no experience like Earnie Stewart over Sven.

The guy is brutal. He shows no tactical imagination and squandered the talent he had on hand in England. Think about it, guys like Gerrard, Lampard, and a world class back line with Terry and Ferdinand or Campbell, England really underachieved. Sven doesn't seem like a person who's capable of motivating anyone. England played scared the whole tournament and were extremely fortunate to have what turned out to be the easiest draw in the tournament.

If SGE becomes manager US Soccer will go downhill. In England he always relied on the old guys and never gave enough young players a chance to compete for a starting job. Now look at what McClaren has done! The England squad is much younger and energetic than when they had SGE! We need someone who knows US Soccer. That means an MLS coach or Klinsman who's spent a lot of time in the US.

Does anyone here watch American Soccer on Gol TV? Ray Hudson on of the commentators on the show has a strong opinion about SGE. He said if Sven gets the job he's moving back to his homeland.
