Beckham dropped because he's 'not match fit'.

McClaren is an idiot. If he can run without hobbling, and his kicking foot is alright.... oh hell, if I have to explain it to you guys. I cant explain it.

It would be as if Greg Oden were kept off Ohio State BB the first part of last year due to his broken shooting hand.

From what I've seen, Beckham isn't starting because McLaren wants Wright-Phillips' speed as the factor. Since the pitch is garbage -- thanks to Miami and the Giants -- someone with Becks' skills would be somewhat wasted. Having said that, I think we [and by that I mean somebody other than me -- why are all of England's matches on PPV?] willsee Becks some time during the match.

What's interesting to me is who starts in goal and who's on the bench. Robinson has been awful this year and is the ONLY reason why Jol got fired, England are nail biting, and Spurs are below us in the table. Carson is streets better and Calamity James should have taken over a month or two ago. If the gaffer has any goolies at all, he's start Carson and have James on the bench.

    Eng-er-lund Eng-er-lund Eng-er-lund !!!

    Kick some Croat ass.

Because money can be made. They are the only team in America that people will probably pay to see. I would love to see the pay-per-view financial figures on this because I can't imagine loads of people are signing up for the England matches. Most would just go to a bar and pay the entrance fee to watch.

Halftime Croatia 2-0. Coupled w/Russia 1-0 on Andorra. The soccernet gamecast said Carson had a howler on the first goal.

Croatia just scored again. England 2-3 Croatia. This game sounds incredible.

I'm reading the BBC commentary and one thing it's clear on is that Bridge is having a horrendous game. Any chance England's new manager gives Konch a look at left back?

That, coupled with Russia's 1-0 victory over Andorra, has *officially* knocked England out of Euro 2008.

    Goodbye Stevie.

Here's a question: if Cole is healthy enough to sit on the bench, why didn't they substitute him for Bridge?

England just isn't great. Pundits just assumed England would walk through Croatia. That showed no intelligence whatsoever. English football fans don't seem to realize the rest of the world plays football at a high level now. England has never even won the European championship, but "lesser" nations like Denmark and Greece have. That means smaller countries can beat England relatively often. Yet, because the English invented the professional sport of football it isn't supposed to be that way. Ridiculous.

Yet, it is still all the foreigners' fault English national football is crap. The truth is it wasn't ever that good when the English League was just English.

Having said all that, if Carson doesn't play the worst game of his life -- what a remarkable Tony Warner imitation on that first goal -- England are through.

The best thing is that McClaren will get the sack.

I agree wholeheartedly. The emphatic 'Wake up' call was nothing short of brilliant.

The whole team looked so poor out there, even with the two goals. Such a pedestrian efforts by England players, in their most important match since the 2006 WC. The defenders and the keepers hardly looked settle all game (our former boy Wayne Bridge, in particular).

Totally. Loved the "Wake Up!" remark. Hopefully some English paper splashes it across their paper tomorrow morning.

England deserved to lose and trust me when I say that they look awful. The penalty they were rewarded was soft at best and at 2-2 you coudn't say they deserved but they had the opportunity to hang on.

As Ian Wright stated, "Evertime Croatia went forward with the ball, they looked capable of scoring". England were gifted that penalty and even with Crouch's wonderful goal they did not have what it took to hold on. Do they English not possess the bottle to show up on the big stages of football?

I must say, well done to Russia and Guus. He has taken that side to new heights and what an accomplishment for them to qualify. Shame that neither Northern Ireland or Scotland could make it through, but they made everyone stand up and take notice from time to time.
