    Just saw this on www.ifforums.com:

Kansas City Wizards star Eddie Johnson could be on his way to the Hawthorns after reports in the USA link the start to English Championship side West Bromwich Albion.

The MLS side is likely to want a fee of around £1.2m for the USA international who made two substitute appearances at the World Cup for his country.

The 22-year old is considered to be one of the best young players in the MLS and only signed for the Wizards at the beginning of the 2006 season.

Johnson is known to fans affectionately as "grown-a.ss man" or "GAM". He received the nickname after an interviewer asked him what video games he played. He responded, "I don't play video games. I'm a grown-a.ss man."

I have never heard that nickname. 1.2M is a nice take. How'd you get the pound sign?

I'd heard 'grown a** man' numerous times, but didn't know exactly where it came from.
    Funny a** story.

Hope it happens. Eddie has been totally stagnent in MLS this year and has looked very lathargic and uninterested. He even went AWOL for a short time after the world cup. Perhaps a promotion battle can light a fire under is grown a**. As for how he'll do, probably as well as he wants to do. He can play when he feels like it.

It came from a poster on bigsoccer, not sure who, but that's where it originated. (I think because they always use that name when talking about him over there.) But some posters have taking a habit of not using the nickname since his little disappearance act.

MLS shot down a loan deal to Real Sociedad for EJ. Everything was in place for this deal to go through but the new Kansas City Wizards owners refused to buy the team if EJ was gone. As said on Big Soccer you got to worry that Ed Jonhson dosn't become the next Clint Mathis.

Hey don't knock the mohawk!! I was wearing one until right after my wedding. Not at work of course, but outside of work. Not the Chad Johnson, Eddie Johnson mohawk, but the one with more hair, also referred to as the Mohican.

Its sad that our most talented players all have had off the field problems (Mathis, Johnson, Donovan and Beasley). Dempsey has had a few problems this year but none of them has effected his play.

At least we have a few good young Americans with their heads screwed on right. Gooch is one, and that seems to be the case for Gibbs, Spector and DeMerit also. They all have the perfect role model in Brian.

I agree with your take on Dempsey. He is all about the business and joy of playing when he's on the pitch.
