No, this is not a weight loss thread. It's about the dropping British pound. For a long time, it's been about $2 a pound, but it's been dropping recently and this morning it's at $1.58.

I'm not sure if that's good or bad for the economy, but it's very useful to note if you are an American hoping to make a trip to the Cottage--everything in England is suddenly about 20-25% cheaper.

I was looking at a couple of Fulham shirts on ebay but shipping from the UK is WAY too fucking expensive.

Not new ones - old shirts listed on Ebay. The guy was asking for 40 pounds for SHIPPING! Even at $1.58 that's a rip. Is there something I should know about that's going on next week, Mr. Fulham Marketing Department?

That's excellent, Mike, both for us and for FFC - gotta take advantage of marketing opportunities here in the States.

There's a pretty significant problem, though, as I see it: if I go to FulhamFCShop.com and order a customized home shirt with name, number and patches, it costs $128.44 + $10.99 shipping = $139.43. If I go to Shop.FulhamFC.com and order the same thing, it costs £56 + £20 shipping = £76 = $115.37.

    Umm... that's screwy.

I've written to them and will post here when I receive a reply. In the meantime, I'd suggest that those who are considering placing an order wait and see what happens - no sense in paying more than you need to.

Props to them for the quick reply:
My hunch is that they set the prices to make them the same equivalent price a few months ago, when the value of the dollar relative to the pound was lower. $139.43 / £76 is a rate of 1.83 $/£, which was accurate on August 27th (dollar rising), September 19th (dollar falling), and September 26th (dollar rising). You can take a look at a chart here. The rate is currently 1.49 $/£. That favorable rate being the case, we Yanks might be better off ordering from Shop.FulhamFC.com for the time being.
