Fulham unveilved the new 2006-2007 season home kit today. From what I have read on the official messageboard, not many people like it. However, I am one who thinks it is quite cool looking and I will definitely be picking one up. What do you think of it?

The more I look at it, the more I like it. The thumbholes are a bit weird but I always get the short sleeve version, which I assume will not have thumbholes...

I would have to see what the short sleeve version looks like...the black curves on the long sleeves is turning me off, but other than that it's not that bad.

Thank God, people with some sense. I am boycotting the other boards due to the non-stop whining regarding the new kit. Its not so bad and I think that the Fulham marketing department didn't use the most flattering of pictures.

Much like Dave, the more I look at it, the more I like it.

I have already voiced my opinion, but I think the article about the kit makes a lot of sense. It is a cutting edge kit that is unique to most other clubs around the world. The style is really cool and while I liked this year's kit, this is even better. Well done on Fulham's part!!

Seriously? I have never felt this strongly about a shirt, although I did refuse to buy the Pizza Hut one but that's because I did not want to look like a delivery boy. Maybe I am wrong - all of you disagree with me and I'm not the type to stubbornly think I'm right. Having said all that, I'd rather look like a delivery boy than a rent boy any day of the week.

On a more serious note, at the end of the day this choice which seems to alienate many fans - too many to be a storm in a tea cup - and could cost the club serious revenue. Whether you like the shirt or not, thats a bad marketing decision by the club. They ought to be pandering to the fans, not alienating them. I'd love to see this design in the Addidas style kit - it would probably look great.

BTW, Mike, if i bash the shirt here will you boycott this site too?

Glen, I completely hear what you are saying about the kit and trying to make it one that is liked by many, not just a few. I am hoping that once people try one on or see others in them that people will change their minds as it is a good source of revenue for the club.

At first glance I hated it. Now after looking at it I guess it might not be too bad. Looking at the pic of Boa Morte rockin' the shirt on Fulham's home page, black area around the neck looks, um, odd. The pic on the main page of this site reminds me of the curvey lines of some current MLS shirts...RSL, Crew, Fire...which I'm not really a fan of either. I'm sure I'll like the short sleeve version better.

Well, I had posted on here shortly after the thread went up, and had the first negative vote.. but, as sometimes happens, the server seemed to forget where it was and froze on the 'post' screen... usually that means it went in, but evidently not in this case.
    {Unless of course, Tom deleted it so as to promote harmony or not having people influenced by my superior taste in clothing design}

But I did gleefully participate in the merriment on the Offal... despite the fact that most comments on the physical attributes were possible misguided.

    1. The thumbholes are there for the teams' long sleeve shirt and there may be two versions: one with, one without. It is not likely to appear on the replica for the simple reason that it costs more to make.

    2. The form-fit cut might well be only for the team and the replica would be straight-cut.
    - However, on thinking this out.. I might be wrong because the French are rumored to have a lower avoirdupois than the typical Brit fan. Thus Airness might be going for what works in France. This borne out by comment of Timon on the Matchnight Crew board with the pithy single response: "Cottagers go Metrosexual".

It is quite possible that the expression on Boa's face in the original image, later replaced after the Messageboard went bananas, told it all. Certainly it affected the opinions posted.

He simply had the look of a family pooch involuntarily dressed in a sweater and party hat. And it was SO priceless I saved it to my PC so as not to lose it forever.

While the majority pointed out, quite rightly, that the shirt seemed exceedingly "Gay"*, most seemed to feel it was due to the thumbholes or at least the cut.

Perhaps the cut, but I'd like to point out the design around the neck.
To me, it pulls out images that I dont often consider:
Mountebank, Jester, Harlequin You know, those characters in medieval drama/comedy that wear the pointy star-cut collars. Of course the pointy felt hat with the bell on the peak was omitted.

I dont have a problem with the scallop on the front... what affects is the inset at the shoulder... this would be easily addressed by extending the dark collar applique to the shoulder seam, square cutting it.

I DO agree that the proof is in the image of the wearer and that we wont know until we actually SEE it worn by Joe Blow**... however, I'm betting against the tide on here. Because I'm older, wiser, and dammit... I'm just a good person!

Just a side note: Does anyone else wonder if the actual players were consulted?

Petty, very rational post - how do you do it? I guess it comes with age. I thnk that from now on you should be known as P-Fog to promote your cult status as the wise one.

I know what I'll look like in it! I think I will be kind and spare the world until I can get fit. :D

I do like that it will be a unique design to the team. I'll wait to see if they have a "relaxed fit" replica.

OK, hyere is some simple skewed math. Lets assume that the club sells on average 30,000 replica jerseys a year and that each sale represents a profit of 32 quid. With the new shirt, its quite possible that sales could drop by a third to 20,000. Also, if you designed a shirt that was really popular, you could of course increase sales by 10,000. Therefore the differential between an esoteric shirt and one designed for the masses is possibly 20,000 shirt sales. 20,000 sales amounts to 640,000 quid.

To put this in perspective, this new shirt could cost us a HH or a BMcB.

Glen, you're assuming that the shirt-buying public won't like the new shirt. I'm not going to use the official message board or even this board as the barometer for what all Fulham fans think.

The more I look at it, the more I like it, although I am hoping the replica shirts are not so form-fitting. If they get a logo for PIPEX that has some style and doesn't look like Times Roman 200 point, I will be buying one.

Is it me or is Fulham demanding that anyone who buy the new kit be a metrosexual?

Tom - you like it cuz your not fat anymore.

Who is the new designer? Banana Republic?

The stipes on the sleeves, when viewed moving at full stride, confuses the defenders, causing them to allow more Fulham goals.

    bloody brilliant!

Good point Smokin'!! Just over a year ago, no chance I would have fit into or maybe liked this kit. However, some number of pounds shed later, I really like it!! The loss of weight definitely has an impact on my views of the kit.
