a lot of that happening this year, Martin. Read a while back where Kenny Cooper [FC Dallas] did a winter training period with his yoot club ManUre, and some other MLS star was training with Derby as well. Makes some sense, when you think of it.

Is Kenny Cooper healthy again? I continue to believe he can be the MNT's long-term replacement for McBride.

I prefer to Ching to fill McBride's slot. Dont know if Cooper is healthy but he was not named to be playing for MNT vs Sweden

Perhaps "jmh" and "mo" need to become familiar with the name of our young Haitian Sensation, Jozy Altidore.

Ching and Cooper are quickly reaching the no return stage of their USMNT careers.

I watched a lot of Red Bulls games this past year, and am quite acquainted with Jozy Altidore, thankyouverymuch. And I think he's a tremendous prospect but I just don't see him as a player in the McBride mold. (By which I mean that he plays a different style, not that he doesn't have McBride's good work ethic and all that.)

Ching is 29 years old and 6'1", Cooper is 23 years old and 6'3", so while I do like Ching's work rate and would usually pick him for the MNT over Twellman or Rolfe or Arnaud, I still think Cooper has more long-term upside.

Speaking of the MNT, the friendly against Sweden when no European-based players (save for a couple who play in Scandinavian summer leagues and are in their offseason) have been recalled should be quite a test.

When I first saw Cooper play for Dallas, I was thinking great, we have a new big man up front. Physically, Cooper is the logical choice to replace McBride, but it seems like he wants to be the through guy rather than the target man.

I already feel like I live in bizarro world...now I have just thrown up a little in my mouth.

Becks? With Arsenal? I know he is just "training" with them...but geezgoshdarnit! Will the world now spin off its axis???

    You know I am kidding...just a little.

But...I hate it for the ManUre fans. The site of Becks in an Arsenal jogging suit must be burning retinas across the globe.

Arsenal's gear is supplied by Nike and Beckham is under contract with Adidas, so I'd guess he's actually not allowed to wear any of Arsenal's stuff under the terms of his sponsorship agreement.

Terri, if you had a choice of spending January in London or in Manchester, I'm sure you'd have no trouble picking!

Uh-oh, I can't imagine adidas is happy about that.

Convenient that Arsenal doesn't have anyone who wears 23 at the moment, so they could give him "his" number.

Don, if you had the choice of spending January in London or LA, wouldn't you choose LA? (Or, heck, the weather's nicer in Madrid too.)

I am sure Nike is pissing themselves with excitement.

They talked about this the other day on WSD. There must be some kind of contract issue that is playing heavily here... I wonder why ManU didnt take him back?

I'm sure he/Victoria has/have many more business and social connections in London than in Manchester. Manchester isn't the global city that London is. Plus, I would imagine that Arsenal's facilities are probably the newest and best in the country right now.

The Beckhams have a home in the London area; Arsenal is the nearest major club.

It's actually known as "Beckenham Palace and is Nr to Bishops Stortford Herfordshire for anyone wishing to visit the Beckhams should they be home. :D
