Manchester United’s tactics during Sunday’s 2-2 draw at home to Fulham have been compared to ‘Conference football’ by visiting defender Dan Burn.

Fulham manager Rene Meulensteen, Sir Alex Ferguson’s first-team coach at Old Trafford, emerged from his team’s performance by claiming the tactics employed by David Moyes were ‘straightforward’ and amounted to no more than ‘get it wide, get it in.’
And although Moyes defended United’s approach by pointing to the chances created by his team, Fulham defender Dan Burn, who started his career at non-league Darlington, claimed that facing the champions was like a return to his Conference days.
“I was just saying to the lads that I've never headed that many balls since the Conference,” Burn said. “But at the end of the day I'm happy for them (United) to play like that.

“It's the first time I've played against United. It's still a massive club and with the players they've got there, they know that they should be doing better themselves.”
Burn admits that United’s tactic of crossing from the touchline made it easy for him to repel their many attacks.
“We knew that was going to happen,” Burn said. “Once we were dropping further back, we were going to get more compact and make them play around us because we thought we had the strength in numbers.
“I'm six foot seven. It helps when dealing with them sort of balls.”

Burn and the club clarified his comment:

“I didn’t mean that quote to sound as disrespectful as it’s been reported. There were a lot of crosses, statistically more than any game since stats started, so I just joked that I hadn’t headed as many balls since the Conference.

“It was a deluge of pressure, and I was just glad I could get on the end of some of them and we were all relieved to get a point. United have world-class players, and we’re up against more world-class players, and arguably the best striker in the league, on Wednesday night.”

Burn put in a fantastic display against the champions on Sunday, but when asked about his own performances he said: “I’m a young player with a lot to learn on the pitch still, but feel like I’m making good progress and I’m enjoying my football.

“I really want to help get Fulham out of this position but, off the pitch, I suppose one of the lessons from Sunday is not to try and have a joke with the media!”

Good for him. Is he really 6'7"? I thought Brede was 6'5" and he doesn't look much if any taller.

Yes, he was a clearing machine, but what really caught my eye was the time he picked up Rooney just inside the penalty area and "gently" muscled him and the ball well to the right of the box while making it impossible for him to cross or pass towards goal. Yes, it's a basic thing, but he did that to Rooney at OT in front of the Stretford End. He wasn't the slightest bit concerned about the possibility of committing a foul. He just did his job very VERY will.

I think he's our best CB right now

He IS our best CB right now, and I'm really glad we recalled him from Birmingham. Being new to the futbol thing, I still don't get the whole loan thought process, including why it even exists. At any rate, it became apparent that we needed help on the defensive end, and this kid is the goods. Hope he stays healthy and continues the excellent play.
