Well, I never thought I'd find myself rooting for El Tri under any circumstances, but I found myself in their camp long before this morning's kickoff. Part of it was Carlos Salcido. Part of it was CONCACAF. Part of it was the "divine right" that Brazil had to be there.

This was not a fluke. Mexico played very well and Brazil -- while having more individual talent than Mexico -- seemed out of synch. Truth be told, it could easily have been 4-1. And how about Salcido as a defensive mid? He was brilliant.

    Viva El Tri :banana-rock: :banana-rock:

I'll just copy over my post in the Olympics thread:

Mexico wins gold in men's soccer. I can't say I have a lot of warm, happy feelings about it; but congrats to Mexico.

Dont see a damn thing wrong with making Mexico 'Our Guys'. We learn that on the school playground.. and follow through in the services..
    Navy v Marines - check
    Navy and Marines v Army/AF - check
Norfolk or San Diego bar: US services against Royal Navy bastids, - check
US and Royal Navy v Argentines.. check.
It goes on.. tribalism is infinitely expandable.

Even to World Playoffs of Baseball. Would I root for Cuba over say.. North Korea? Damn Betcha.

Went to a house w/a good dozen Mexico fans for a 6 am breakfast, which consisted of chilaquiles, spicy huevos, beans, and a chilled shot of Centenario tequila w/every Mexico goal. Couldn't believe it when Mexico scored within 30 seconds and found out the shot thing was really happening at 7 am  . This is the same U23 group that won the youth WC a few years ago. Considering that Chicarito is focusing on ManU and Dos Santos got dinged in the quarterfinals and still won tells you they are loaded (Fabian and Peralta are top notch) and have a chance to do some serious damage in 2014.
