Contradictions of Democracy

    We have heard the famous quip of Winston Churchill, paraphrased:
    "Democracy is a terrible form of government but it's far better than any other"

    He didnt come up with that all by himself, he was channeling Alexis de Tocqueville

    Excerpt from 'Democracy in America':
    Kudos to the University of Virgina which has the entire work on-line!

    Interesting, is it not, that the warnings in that celebrated work of over a century and a half ago still hold true!

    Every modern day ill and achievement has been addressed, there are no 'changed circumstances' that negate his observations.

    Seems to me that the ONLY civics or government course you would need is one that dissects and reviews this epic observation.

    And, personally I think it explains in several of the passages I just read, why we are seeing the rise of the Paulians.
