    A balanced view, IMO.

Keep the pressure on human rights, let Chinese bloggers and yuppies do the rest.

    Interesting little article ...
It's definitely true that perspective and experience dictates reality and if we're being honest with ourselves, as Americans, we have no right to tell another country what kind of socio-political system to use as long as said government isn't actively involved in the violation of things like human rights (since it's the example being used) ...
One could be forgiven for thinking that the abuse of human rights is almost inherant to communism, given that the world's most notable examples of communism are the former USSR and China. Communism, in a broad stroke, has been about power and control at all costs and most typically achieved by oppressing those who would have the potential to challenge said power (i.e. - the people in general)
If China were to improve on what the global community deems to be "human affairs" then it would be their business to decide how they want to run their economy, social system, exc ...
We don't go to Holland and tell them that their system is broken and they should become capitalist, because socialism works in small, homogenous societies. As long as their are no atrocities or larger scale injustices then the Dutch people should be allowed to decide whether living a guaranteed "pretty good" life in exchange for the shot at individual greatness, is for them.
It's impossible to know which way China will go, moving forward from the Olympics. They verbally express a desire to become part of the global community but behave in a counter-intuitive way to that end.
Hopefully the author of the article is right and China's communism will become more dosile and socialist-like, but I guess that remains to be seen ...
