In a statement from the chairman, it's been announced that the club is reducing the price for season tickets by 15% for next season. Presumably (someone correct me if I'm wrong), this would be after a relegation-induced reduction already this season.

    (statement here)

To read the chairman's statement, it seems a mea culpa. We stink, so we're going to charge you less. Now, I'm obviously not a season ticket member, so any commentary I can provide on this is purely theoretical...but does this seem to anyone else like the wrong message to send?

Is this an apology? A token thanks to the supporters? Or is it a reflection of the club's future--less quality, so less cost. This doesn't sound like a club looking to improve.

Even if it's pure rhetoric, I'd prefer to hear about what's being done to work toward the goal of promotion. As it is, a statement and action like this only lowers expectations.

Well, from the matches we have seen, it doesn't look like Craven Cottage gets many butts in the seats at the current prices. I say it's a simple supply and demand equation that determined next year's ticket prices.

Totally agreed, Heather, that if season ticket sales are down, dropping prices may be an economic necessity. My issue is with how the club is presenting it. I don't want the chairman telling me we have an inferior product, so we'll have lower prices. I'd prefer he spend more time talking about improving the product. He seems to be accepting inferiority, which is the first step to becoming the Taco Bell of English football.

Is this the wrong time to admit I like Taco Bell?

I don't think I am reading that much into the statement. I am reading the usual thanks for your loyalty, especially since we've just experienced a difficult season(s). Please come back...please?! I'll throw some free cherries on top of those ice cream cones. Please come back, I will make it worth your time.

Haha, yeah, it is a guilty pleasure of mine. I don't indulge often, but sometimes those greasy tacos just call my name. Plus, they're cheap. Any decent Mexican cuisine costs a bit more in this area.

I think I agree with Heather here (especially on the crucial Taco Bell point). I didn't read "accepting inferiority" into the statement at all. I think it could just as easily be read as: "We need to get butts in seats to be successful on the field." Lower prices helps to do that. I'm sure Khan is also trying to win back some support from fans that have seen nothing but regression since he took over the club.

I actually think it was a well worded statement, and whoever actually writes it for Khan deserves a pat on the back. Unfortunately we've heard these rah-rah statements from Khan before and nothing has changed for the better. Here's hoping he puts his money where his pen is and builds us a decent squad for next season.

I interpret it strictly as a financial ploy. Somebody probably said season ticket renewals are behind pace. This is one of several "action" solutions. Done and done.

Well, I can honestly say I appreciate the lack of cynicism among this community.

And for the record, I referred to our club as the Taco Bell of English football with more than a little affection (for both).

He says quite clearly in the piece that they're committed to turning it around at all levels of the club & that the price reduction is a reward for the loyalty the supporters have shown, as well as an attempt to further foster the "family" nature of the club. I get when you're losing, it's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation with these releases. I'm as cynical as they come, but I don't see why people choose to disect these things and attempt to read between the lines.

Taco Bell is disgusting. However, that's coming from me in my 40's. When I was younger (particularly in college) and could process that stuff w/o my body trying to mutiny, I sang a different tune.

I remember asking The Memsahib 20 or so years ago why her fellow college students were pouring their money into Taco Bell. "Most of them are Latinos," I whined. She replied, "Don, it's
    $0.59 food!"

Exactly. Plus, more $ for beer. I remember hitting the Taco Hell (as we called it) drive-thru and getting 3 taco supremes & a coke for around $2.50 after I'd get off work. With a full course load & working full time, fast & cheap was the priority.

I remember not liking it much then either though. My mom would make & freeze lasagna & casseroles to send back to school with me on the few occasions I had time to get home. Those were the best weeks.

my taco bell (an aside, they did have those awesome old buildings that were signature, and now are home to financial advisers or used car lots) was a filler. cheap? yes. desired? no. too many good mexican food options in CA to rely on taco bell first, unless it was midnight and everything else was closed. thus, a bean burrito and chicken soft taco could help ward off the impending hangover.

ag, my mom, and grandmother, would send home frozen lasagna, enchiladas and casseroles as well. fantastic, and when I brought those foods home, the housemates would buy all of the beer for a week.

I thought she stopped at a Chipotle. Perhaps to someone from Ohio, the two are indistinguishable.

As a citizen of the hometown of Taco Bell's parent company Yum! Brands, I wholeheartedly support them, my neighbors they employ, and their generous support of numerous intitiatives that make Louisville so great, not the least of which is the fabulous KFC Yum! Center.
