NYT does a panel review on them.

As usual {for NYT}, the head on the article is misleading.

When you get down to the bottom of it, you get to what I think is the REAL TRUTH.

People dont like change. think, lamp-oil to gas lighting. Gas Lighting to Incandescents. I KNOW there was bias against how the 'bulb' lighting was 'unattractive', then because I heard it first-hand from my mom who lived through that conversion. Seems silly for anyone who's ever gone camping with a Coleman lantern.

The writer didnt really go past the anecdotal, though.. or LED lighting wouldnt have been dismissed so easily based on current product.
35 years ago there was only red available in LED.

Think TV Screen. 25 years ago, LCD was dismissed as too slow for TV display. And it was said that couldnt be fixed as it was a 'natural property'.

I think the final conclusion to be drawn from the article is valid, though. CFL for general room lighting, Incandescent or Halogen {I hate 'em but what the hell} for 'spot' lighting.

LED for 'wall wash' of course, cause future products will be color-controllable.
