Carrick to Man U for 18 million pounds finalized. WoW! Tottenham must be laughing. I mean Carrick is a good player but that kind of money is very excessive. He's no better than Diop for example. I believe that’s the same amount Chelsucm paid for Sheva and he's one of the top five strikers in the world. Seems to me Ferguson is very poor in the transfer market. Its like he just goes after the big over rated guys that the whole world is talking about. See Fernando Torres, Sol Campbell ect. It flew when Man U were the biggest spenders in the prem but those days are gone. Fergie really needs to be more resourceful and try and find some bargains.

He's a useful player, and would be at home on most Prem first team squads, but he's not all that, and -- and for me this is most significant -- he's not better than who they already have at his position. The money paid for Carrick is definitely a stretch, but the fact remains that Manchester United was in dire need of getting a midfielder to somewhat fill the boots of Roy Keane. The defense for United is pretty good and with a healthy Saha and Rooney up front, the attack is good. However, they needed a midfielder in the worst way and Carrick was available. There were probably better out there for the price, but they needed a player to come in who knows the rigors of the Premiership and who will play immeditately and make an impact on the team. I think Carrick will do that. As I said, I think they paid too much for him, but this was a needed signing for them and I think he will have a good season.
Smith is back in light training right now, but is not expected to be back playing in matches until early September or even perhaps October.
Mascherano would of been cheaper and the smarter move. Hes by far the better player and is one of the best at sitting deep and breaking up attacks. Vieira would of been a much cheaper option as well and would give them 2-3 good years. Oh well there mistake and the fans arent gonna like this mistake.
