I agree. I only wish he'd retired before the last WC. He had more than lost a step, and couldn't keep up with the speedsters of the world. His selection might have been based on injuries to Gibbs and Spector, but he should have been kept as a backup to Boca. Aside from Erikson's choice of strikers, Pope's selection and starting position was the biggest coaching blunder in the WC. Having said all that, he was the best central defender we've developed between Lalas and Gooch, and he's always been a classy guy. I hope he continues to grace the MLS.
