Slowly but surely MLS is weeding out the wannabe's like Mo Johnston.

But is Bruce the answer? Is there any MORE of a hot seat than RBNY... ironic that he's gonna have a tougher time there than getting the US out of group, though for the same reason: Team Attitude.

    Ooops, almost forgot:

Hey, Bruce.. playing to 'not lose' is not acceptable, the Mutts been doing that for years.
And too many others in MLS, as well.

Well, he did win a couple of trophies with DC United and University of Virginia, he should have success in NY. It probably won't come quick. But, unfortunately, it will come for the Red Bulls. :(

But I sure hope not. :3d devil:

I assume he'll be with the team in Columbus tomorrow night. I'm curious to see the kind of reception he'll get.

Heather.. all due respect.. and much as i envy you for being able to just head out to that dump of a stadium and watch a REALLY well coached team, i wouldnt worry about it too much.

MLS, like just about everything else, has changed. What worked THEN with DC, probably wont work now.

Well, this is a far cry from signing on with Charlton or someone of that ilk. I know that was his master plan after getting us to the semi's. I feel like we've let him down so. Ah well, let him be the movie of the month in NY/NJ.

Seeing your team's former coach (who was a major part of your team's success) go on to coach your hated rivals, just gives you an uneasy feeling.

And as a DC United fan I hate to see NY Red Bulls have any success, no matter how small it might be.

Interesting to see if this works out and what type of resources he'll have to work with.

I can see conflicts on the horizon to be honest. Say Manstrich and Bekenbauer want to bring in Ronaldo or some other old geezer. Bruce will rightly realize that this is not good and if your going to spend that kind of money then you might as well buy good up and coming talent. He won't back down, he never does. Will the Redbull brass be able to handle it?

As I dont have a favorite MLS team because I live in Florida, I want the Red Bulls to do well, and i think Arena is the guy to do it.

Ummm.... can we review Bob Bradley's result with them... and his 'before and after'?

Really think Arena is the 'Bill Parcells' of US soccer? If you had asked someone a few years ago they might have said Bradley was.

Its MLS though. Their are no "super clubs" in the league so any team can win the cup. Arena also has won two titles with DC United so he knows what it takes to win in MLS.

    1. Galaxy won the cup with Steve Sampson as manager

    2. Crew just sunk to bottom of the table with Sigi at the helm
    - oh.. that means that RBNY has a two game win streak, before Arena even starts!!!!

    3. Gansler fired at KC

What works for one guy at one time means diddly...

    I rest my case.

Pettyfog, look at the silverware DC United won with Arena in charge, it's nothing to gloss over.

    '96 MLS Cup Champions
'96 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Champions
    '97 MLS Cup Champions
    '98 CONCACAF Champions Cup Champions
    '98 Interamerican Cup Champions

    and his overall record 87-37-1.

No other MLS coach can match Arena's accomplishments.

I find it surprising he only has ONE tie.

You have to remember MLS had shootouts back in the day.

    1. Landon Donovan won the Cup, Sampson was just there for a ride.

    2. Crew has more injurys then players active, plus the youngest team in the league.

    3. Gansler is still a good coach he just needed a change of teams. I could see him at Salt Lake.

Arena will get the job done imo.

Bruce is a winner. Also, his strategy is much more suited to the week in/week out of league play.

It may take a season or two, but I believe he will make those guys contenders.

Dat's how I sees it.

I have the same feeling towards Chelscum and West Spam...minus the 'former coach' thing.

I never actually picked an MLS team to follow, I just liked watching games but if I had to pick, it would probably be DC United.
