Now there's lots of TV commercials out there that are designed to irritate you -- personal injury lawyers kind of depend on it. I think the idea is that the more irritating they are the more likely they'll bully opposing lawyers. Others are irritating bcause the products they pitch are uncomfortable for general audiences. But, there are others that fit into neither category but still manage to irritate the expletive out of me. First and foremost is Chevy Cars and Trucks. For the better part of a year they've featured "real people, not actors." [aside: I know a LOT of actors. All of them are real people -- even musical actors]. Chevy ads take these "real people" and get them to guess who made the car/truck that leads the league in whatever. The "real people" are dumb -- not unusual -- the one that most irritated me was a woman who when told that Chevy had won an award for three straight years responded, "I'm so proud." Why? Proud of whom? The commercials also feature pat "surprise endings" one of which was wonderfully parodied by Jamie in a Progressive Insurance commercial. Anyhow, that's my mega irritating "mainstream" commercial. What's yours? Yes, this is a football site, but it'll take your mind off this seriously irritating season.
