And if nobody [but a few of us] is STILL paying attention to the US Open Cup [Lamar Hunt Trophy if I remember correctly], all of us are absolved by timmyg, who has devoted several threads in his blog to this event.

His latest is a rundown of the non-MLS clubs still involved in the competition. Check it out, http://sittingontheterraces.blogspot.co ... -club.html and then check out the other US Open Cup articles on his site.

Nice blog Timmy. I really wish there was more coverage (or even attention) of the Cup.

good stuff, timmy; remember, if you add the front matter to the addresses in your signatures -- like I did in mine -- folks could click on it any time.

    No charge, pard.

Hollywood United sounds like a club the David Beckham would have an ownership interest in.

    Third round results and wrap-ups

    Upsets

2nd division Crystal Palace Baltimore oust Red Bull NY
The Sounders once again topple Chivas
Charleston take out Houston on PK's

MLS teams advancing to the quarterfinals

    FC Dallas
    NE Revolution
    Chicago Fire
    DC United
    KC Wizards

Rosters for the losing MLS teams

Houston Dynamo -- Tony Caig, Erik Ustruck (Johnny Alcaraz 81), Geoff Cameron, Steve Wondolowski, Mike Chabala, Chris Wondolowski, Nick Hatzke (Stuart Holden 98), John Michael Hayden, Corey Ashe, Kyle Brown, Franco Caraccio.

Not one of the stronger teams Houston could have fielded but not a big surprise with the SuperLiga coming up.

New York Red Bulls -- Zach Thornton, Chris Leitch (Sinisa Ubiparipovic 46), Kevin Goldthwaite, Carlos Mendes, Jeff Parke, John Gilkerson (Andrew Boyens 46), Luke Sassano, Gordon Kljestan (John Wolyniec 46), Mike Magee, Danleigh Borman (David Roth 63), Chris Megaloudis,

Substitutes Not Used: Hunter Freeman, Caleb Patterson-Sewell, Ricky Schramm

I don't follow the Red Bull but this doesn't look like one of their stronger squads although I would have expected them to handle a USL Div 2 side. Any comments Red Bull fans?

Some of us ALMOST made the 40 minute drive last night to see the NYRB/CPB game. CPB usually plays at UMBC (10 minutes away). We're bummed we didn't go see it, even though it was the NYRB Reserves.

Me too andy. Annapolis is too far, and $16 is too much. But looks like we missed a good one. You planning on any cpb/cpusa games in the near future?

Osorio made it clear with his Starting XI that this match wasn't of any great importance to him. A lot of fans, especially the 50+ that made the drive out there, are really pissed off . . but that's to be expected.

Another take on it can be found here - The Apocalypse in Annapolis

Timmyg. I'll probably catch some CPB games (at UMBC) over the next month or so. There's a bunch of guys I know who have talked about going; it'll just take one of us to take the initiative to organize an "outing."

    3....2....1 blastoff to the semi-finals!

Yesterdays Open Cup matches produced 3 overtime matches, 2 PK shootouts, and 1 clear-cut upset by a USL-1 side over an MLS squad.

    - USL-2 side Crystal Palace Baltimore took the Rev's to penalty kicks before losing the shoot-out 5-3. Kudos to CPB for a great Open Cup run.

    - In the second match decided by PK's Seattle beat KC 6-5 in the shoot-out. Seattle GK Chris Eylander is unscored upon in the tournament.

    - The final game to reach overtime minutes was won by DC United with the second OT period being played 10 v 10 after Blanco and Burch were ejected from the match.

    - In the fourth match the Charleston Battery ousted FC Dallas by a 3-1 margin. According to the report FC Dallas played most of their regular starters for a large portion of the match.

Remind me again why nobody is broadcasting these matches! Upsets by the underdogs and three of four matches going into overtime sounds like good entertainment to me.

Just a note on the Seattle vs KC game....

I went to the game and it was quite entertaining. I had a close eye on Sebastian Le Toux, Seattle Sounders FC's only signing to date, and he looked awesome. He looked like the best player on the field until maybe Jimmy Conrad was substituted in during the second half.

He has great speed and an impressive ability to control and trap the ball even when under extreme pressure. He seemed to have endless, sprint everywhere energy, but he really seemed to be out of gas at the end of the game, but I think that is most certainly a fixable issue.

Overall it was a great game, not a lot of people there but of course it would be difficult for it to appear there was a big a crowd in the cavernous, 70,000+ Quest Field, which by the way is a beautiful, beautiful stadium and seems to be built exactly for the sport, which i suppose it sort of was.

I was happy to see the win, lots of great chances for both sides. KC obviously had the better possessions, but Seattle seemed to create the best chances out of the two teams and they mainly came off the counter attack. Many, many near goals so it was one of those "exciting" 0-0 games. Glad to see them win, but sad to see the next game is in Charleston.

    What a quarterfinal, eh?

Though I am somewhat heartbroken my CPB squad couldn't muster enough for that final step.

And I loved how a lot of the games were free streaming video. Europe, FA Cup, BPL etc etc could learn a lot from us. Oh, and I blogged about it.
