Sweet is right. Nice view too.
If we ever build one in SJ, we will have a view of the airport... :?

PS- Nice one Joe, I needed that after this morning.

Guille certainly lent some controversy in the Crew DC match Saturday:

Hand of God - Fist of Guille; Lenhart hits bottom of confidence scale

Pettyfog's MoM: Emilio Renteria.. you'll see him more and more.

Fittingly for the July 4 WE theme, with postgame fireworks, Fire at Crew.
Will be a feature televised match. FSC 8PM, 7-3

As I say in the Crew pregame thread:

Ah... what a fun match. Crew 2-1 Fire
Crew players scored all three goals within five minutes closing minutes of first half, including a leveling OG by Frankie which was one of the most beautiful headers into the upper 90 you could ask for. Had Hesmer totally beat!

Ladies and Gents: The Crew have a new star, Emilio Renteria. The guy is a delight to watch on the pitch, he turns the opponent's defense into spaghetti.
And when he does that, he's having fun and he grins like crazy. And when he grins he look like a young Louis Gosset Jr.

Other than replacing Frankie for fitness, Manager Bobby screwed up Chicago's plan B by subbing in attackers. Renteria who is a beast against any defense, then Steve Lenhart.

World Cup DOES have trickle down effect. 20,000 at Gillette to see Landon play
    - except Landon didnt play. So how to reward those disappointed fans?

    Beat LA.

    Soundly.

Fire put 11 on field against RSL, lose*.
SJ pulls out win in Philly

    * sidenote: This is McBride's final season... unless Fire get rid of this unfocussed rebuilding paradigm and bring in someone like Bob Bradley to do it right.

Heard a lot of buzz about RSL, lately?

With LA losing a couple and Crew tying, looks interesting.

I'm going to attend the DCU-LAG game next Sunday, just to cheer on, and say farewell, to Landon Donovan. I may even start a "Let Him Go!" chant :)

    RE: AllStar game

I'm gonna skip the DCU-LAG game. Thunderstorms expected, so besides DC driving in the rain and sitting uncovered at RFK for two hours, the olde concrete beast has major issues keeping the lights on when storms are in the area.

    DCU: Emilio wants out

    sez Goff:

    Weeks important action:
RSL lost, Toronto lost at Philly, and Crew, after getting beat at home by KC, showed Thierry just how high was the hill, by dominating the PBNJ 2-0.

Renteria {remember I said to watch him?} scored the winner from a pretty feed-through from GBS, and just missed on two more while Brian Carroll got a sweet half-volley insurance goal from a heads-up play by Chad Marshall.

    MLS Week 17

    Results that matter:
    LAG 2-2 SJ
    TFC 1-1 Dal
    RSL 1-1 Chivas
    Crew 3-0 Hou

A Frenchman got his first MLS goal in just over 2 minutes of his MLS debut. No, not some guy with roaming hands... a guy from second division stock.

GBS was in on the keeper who smothered his attempt but couldnt hold the ball, it popped off to the side of the box and Griffit took it out for the angle and fired it over the prone GBS into the net.

Leandre Griffit had arrived in Columbus expecting to make an impact within a couple of weeks. It didnt happen that way:
Coach Bobby is an old softy, though. Griffit's Brother and Sister and sisters friend were in to visit, so when Bobby put him in at 88' Griffit made the most of it.

Renteria opened the scoring by being everywhere on the field and charging incessantly. Good thing.. when Hou GK came out to collect a ball and bobbled it, Rent was right there to pick it up and trot into goal with it.
He now has four MLS goals.. pretty good for a guy not seeing the field at beginning of season. But he probably expected more..

The second goal at about 84' was put in by Liverpudlian CB Andy Iro off a set piece from GBS.

When the match ended at 93' GBS was still going strong after having run as much as he did in 07, while in high humidity 89 deg heat.

Shaun Francis made his first start at LB and did a great job. He's a rookie from an NAIA school and every bit a pleasant surprise both on defense and ranging up.
And btw... when you watch an entire game and the chief CB's name is mentioned maybe TWICE by the announcing team, that's a good thing.
And that's how it is with Chad Marshall.. no drama no mention.

Let New York and LA sign all the names they want; The Crew is once again the best team in MLS. LA had the honor for the first half of the season and I had no problem in saying LA was the best, either.
    Now they arent.

Nice little story about Griffit. Didnt see any mention that the goal was also vs the Dynamo. He had an unsuccessful trial with them in the spring before the Crew signed him. Must've been sa-weet for him. If I had to pick a favorite MLS team I would have said the Dynamo due to Ching and the former DeRo and Holden connections (and my Houston connections), but the Crew might start to grow on me. Lets see if they pull that same season ticket crap that they did with Beckham when Henry finally plays in Columbus.

He said that it was against Houston didnt matter to him {a gentleman}.

New York's already been in for their reg season refresher course (0-2) and you're looking at playoffs till they will be in again. Providing they can beat Toronto.
And Henry isnt going to draw like Beckham.. think that's pretty much bullet logic. He's here to improve the international profile, not so much attendance.

Sorry the Beckham ticket regimen put you off but what would you have clubs do, under the circumstance.. is it really any different than Fulham would have done?

Oh... while I'm at it. Giant Kudo's to the Wizards for the spanking in Crew Stad a week and a half ago. Made a helluva difference in the Crew attitude.

NYRB and KC beat teams from Manchester on the same day. DCU crushed Portsmouth 4-0 a few days ago and Spurs squeaked by NYRB last week. Methinks the EPL will think twice about coming over in a few years. The MLS is improving and these US tours are supposed to be "pre-season victory laps" not beat-downs by the "Yank pub league teams".

Great results for MLS - and the Wizards were down a man much of the match. Reminds me yet again that I need to watch more MLS games. I found it interesting that Fergie explained the loss resulted from the inexperience of his young defenders. I honestly hope Smalling does well for them, but I havent been very impressed.

Well it makes no sense for someone from Cleveland, other than a Crew fanatic, to buy Crew season tickets. So I didnt, and I have still never been to a Crew game. Without knowing the financial details that they had to consider, here is my suggestion. Reward current and new season ticket holders with something special for the Beckham debut and double the cost of tickets for that game only. I would have paid double. Lots of people would've, and the Crew would've made some new fans that day. I think it's short-sighted to try to sell season tickets through another teams player. But again I dont know the financial and attendance details for the Crew.

Good discussions on the LAG BS MB:
    I'm proud of MLS

Pretty much the standard arguments but the consensus I believe is the fans like the way KC and NY played.
I think that's right.. when given space, we aint all that bad.

Key thing, IMO, like said there when we start dominating the Mex clubs in CCL and Superliga, that will be good. I think there's signs of that. As well as noting the Crew won at Saprissa last year.

When the MLS starts taking their CONCACAF club committments and their Hunt Cup commitments as seriously as they take these pre-season friendlies, the league will have much more credibility. Beating Chivas in the CCL is so much a greater measure of the strength of your league then beating Man U or Man City in what is only a meaningless exhibition for them.

We have to realize that to increase our credibility, we have to take matches that have consequences more seriously than we do made for TV "showcases."
