Fulham plays Man City March 21. I am in from the States that morning and am strongly considering taking myself to the game. I have never been to a game, and am new to Fulham too.

There are single seats available in a few different parts of the stadium. Where do people suggest I sit?

I was planning on taking tube to Putney Bridge. Is it an easy walk from there? When should I arrive for a 3 PM start?

Any other advice on optimizing the trip? Pubs? Things to see/do?

If you can tickets in the Hammersmith End, I would go that route.

Taking the tube to Putney Bridge is perfect, an easy walk to the stadium.

I would arrive around noon if you plan on going to the bar before the game. Even if not, you can check out the team store (pretty small) and take in the atmosphere and get into the stadium when they open the gates.

I made my first trip back in August and went to two games. For the first game, I got there early and entered as soon as they opened the gates so I could walk around the stadium and check out them warming up and what not since it was my first time.

For the second game, I went to the pub, drank plenty of beer and was buzzed pretty good once I entered the stadium.

Can't go wrong with either way.

Welcome to the site OTHSL. What LaxAttack said.

Everyone will also recommend you PM o_sullyvan and AmericanMike if you need more help or have more questions. Definitely take in the ManCity match while you're there - you only live once.

Brad, I will be doing a mini tour of Scandanavia next weekend so I am going to miss the Man City match. Lax nailed it tho. You could combine his advice.

For example: Get to the Golden Lion (4 minute walk from the tube, if that) around noon. Stick around till about 1:30-45 latest, grab a few ales and some grub. By the time you take off, the place should be getting crowded with Fulham faithful.

Grounds are about 20 minute walk. That would give you close to a full hour in and around the stadium (or a few minutes to hit the shop as well) prior to kickoff.

AmericanMike is the man though and I know he could add to the recommendation of watering holes and how best to get the full Fulham experience for your first trip. Oh yeah, either before or after the game, try to walk to or from the tube in the park next to the Thames. Since the game will end at 5, should still be light outside and you will be rewarded with a very cool/picturesque stroll.

What I recommended should be very easy to do. One thing, if I remember correctly, the Lion usually has a sign out front that says members or season ticket holders on match day. Don't let that ward you off. Just walk right in like you've been there before (I think it may be up there to keep away fans out, no one has ever questioned me to date). If you have any Fulham regalia on, even better.

Welcome to the site and I am sure you will enjoy your trip whatever you decide to do. Wish I was going to be there, but I will be in 'Dear Old Stockholm' (check out Miles or Coltrane's versions).

Welcome Brad, the Man City match would be a great match to see so highly recommend you go. If you can get a ticket in the Hammersmith End (might be hard for that match) do that.

Thanks all. My flight arrives at heathrow at 11... and i need to drop off gear at hotel in city before heading over. so, my arrival will be tight. I did go ahead and get a ticket. I ended up splurging for a Johnny Haynes Stand section E-lower row 3 ticket. Puts me on midfield and close to play. Yes, i know it will lack the passion and color of Hammersmith... but I'll think I will still be in good shape to take it all in. I'm very excited and appreciative of your help. Hope my flight is on time...

Nothing wrong with the Haynes stands whatsoever. It will have a very nostalgic feel to it, you will be stepping back in time a bit. You may be running and gunning a bit to get there on time, but doable (make sure you hit the Gatwick or Heathrow express train to the city depending on where you arrive). Luckily you'll be flying with the jet stream so hopefully you arrive early. Good luck and enjoy!

Had a great day at the Cottage, despite Fulham's poor performance vs. City. We almost snuck a point a few times in the end, but we were fortunate that City only had two. Good call on the Golden Lion -- enjoyed a sunny day walk by Thames too. Too much damage done on my credit card in the Fulham gift shop... guess you can say i'm hooked.
