That's a good point about the artificial turf. The American’s probably do know it all to well. It still haunts me when I think about playing on frozen Astroturf when I was in my teens (it was after I got hurt when they realized that they should call the game, because the field was dangerous). Good luck guys.

I like Don's line up. Much better than some Fulham supporters, who feel we should just line up with nothing but reserves. Fuck that, this tie is very important.

I like our chances despite what is sure to be some crappy conditions.

    1-0 Fulham

No coverage at all apparently. No TV...No Audio. Guess we'll be following a match cast.

Don mentioned in the injury update thread that Murphy, Zamora and Konchesky didn't travel to Russia with the team. (I don't see why Zamora and Konch wouldn't have gone, though I did like Don's explanation, but in any case I don't see any reason why he would've made that one up.) So if those guys are out, I guess maybe we'll see...

    Schwarzer
    Paintsil - Hughes - Hangeland - Stoor/Kelly*?
    Dempsey - Etuhu - Greening - Duff
    Nevland - E. Johnson

Stockdale, Kelly/Stoor, Baird, Riise, Gera, Seol, Kamara

As someone mentioned upthread, it makes sense to play both Dempsey and EJ here (even though Dempsey could use a rest and Roy hasn't really shown he trusts EJ as a starter) because they've got more experience playing on artificial turf than probably the rest of the team combined. I'd be inclined to say Kamara rather than Nevland with EJ, but on carpet I think you've got to be doubly careful with anybody who's had a knee injury anytime recently.

    * If Roy wants to sell Stoor, he'll have an easier time if the buyer has seen him play recently, so Roy might play him as an audition; otherwise I'd guess Kelly over here, though maybe he and Paintsil would be on the opposite sides from what I have in that case.

well the game kicks off in just under 90 minutes. anyone going to be in the chat zone?

also, whats up with all the hoopla over the "plastic pitch"? the offall has a photo album about it, like they're playing on mars or something.

its just FieldTurf. something that will be used on every athletic field in this country within 20 years.

0-0 at the half. Nevland up front alone; EJ and Kamara on the bench. Dempsey not in game-day squad.

It looks like an intrasquad game. Their uni's are exactly like our away strip two season ago.

I had about 7 heart attacks during that game. Group stages here we come, wooo!

And I must say, pretty decent group in the chat room for so early on a Thursday.

and we give up a goal in the last 5 minutes but hold on to win 3-2 on aggregate. Seol and Kamara came in as subs. We played very very very ugly.

Weird fact: Duff played on the right and Riise played on the left. Don't know what that means, but we're THROUGH TO THE GROUP STAGES OF THE EUROPA CUP and we rested half our squad in the process.

Good enough. I mean, this is what you're aiming for when you throw out the squad that Roy threw out, right?

Would've liked to see EJ get some game time though.
