Okay, after two brilliant outings, we still have a chance to get into the next round. All we need to do is beat Egypt 11-0 and have Brazil beat Italy 14-0 and we're on through to the semi's to be ass-kicked by South Africa!

    Here's my lineup

Howard [duh]; Spector, Gooch, Cheesehead, Bornstein [oh, what the fuck; why not]; Dempsey, Bradley, Torres, Donovan; Davies, Jozy

Final score: Egypt 1 USA 1 I figure with Zidan unable to walk and half their team suffering from tendonitis from repeated kicking of Italian asses, we should be able to hang in with these guys.

Davies gets a goal, a yellow card, three ears and a tail.
Jozy gets his first 90 minutes in all of 2008-09.
Beasley gets a new pair of shoes and lets them slide under his feet.
Sacha and Ricardo get inducted into the Dumb-ass Hall of Fame.
Bob Bradley is hired as the head coach of the Buffalo Bills.
One point from three matches and we go home. And we'll most likely do the same next year.
WE'RE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH INTERNATIONAL QUALITY PLAYERS, people.

But I got Diet Dr. Pepper!

HD is correct, we don't have the quality - but for pete's sake, give me a plot to watch or sustained effort. I don't ask for much, just play with some heart this time.

And blood ALL of the young 'uns in this one. That means Guzan for Howard, and Davies, Adu and Torres too. And, don't risk Boca's hammy - 'what the fuck' to Bornstein as my oh so eloquent colleague pronounced. He may come good yet, just somebody please teach him how to freakin' cross (and Spector can sit in on the class too).

Ok, I started the "red card" pool prematurely on the other thread, but given that somebody is going to receive one on Sunday, who is the most likely culprit? I'm backing the favorite: M. Bradley. But a freak red to our goalie seems to be on par with recent events.

I'm drinking for this one and not the good doctor - don't care that it starts at 11:30 pacific. Scotch. Neat. At 10, 2 and 4. Cheers.

I'll be watching with a PBR, Red, White & Blue Burger, and some Freedom Fries. I want to singe the sting into my psyche, and we can someday look back and say this was the beginning of the eventual push for internatinal soccer legitimacy.

I'm surprised Don has not traded in the Diet DP for a Tsing Tao.

I really don't care who starts as long as they all play as hard as LD did against Brazil.

This is what I expect to see:

    Timmy

    Spector-Gooch-Demerit-Bornstein

    Dempsey-Clark-Bradley-Torres

    Donovon-Altidore

This is what I would like to see:

    Timmy

    Spector-Gooch-Demerit-Bornstien

    Bradley-Clark

    Adu-Torres-Donovon

    Altidore

the usa NEEDS to clog the midfield in this match as Egypt is going to run the yanks off the field otherwise. Look at Ghana in 2006 and Nigeria in the '08 Olympics -- we simply couldn't handle their speed.

This match may be the death knell for any lingering 2010 hopes.

I'm with Nev, bleed the young and relatively uninitiated.

The Old Locks: Howard, Gooch, Boca, Donovan, Bradley, Dempsey.

The New Looks: Spector, DeMerit, Torres, Adu, Kljestan, Feilhaber, Clark, Altidore, Davies.

That's all that should play this last match (of course one of those could not). The rest should just go ahead and pack their bags.

    My preferred line-up:

    -------------------------------- Howard -------------------------------
    ----- Spector ----- Gooch ---------------- De Merit ---- Boca -----
    --------------------------------- Clark --------------------------------
    -------- Dempsey --------------------------------- Adu -------------
    --------------------------------- Bradley -----------------------------
    --------------------------------------------- Donovan ----------------
    -------------------- Altidore ------------------------------------------

    Give Trecker's article a read... it's harsh, but true. http://msn.foxsports.com/soccer/story/9 ... il-debacle

Without question we are in over our heads, but if we could bottle the intensity we saw in the first 30-40 minutes of the Itay match it would be a vast improvement over the lackluster perofmances we've been treated to over the past few fixtures.

    My lineup...

    -------------Howard---------------
    ------------------------------------
    Spector, Gooch, DeMerit, Boca-
    ------------------------------------
    ------------Bradley--------------
    Dempsey--------------Donovan--
    --------------Torres----------------
    Altidore-------------------Adu------

Heavy on the attacking side, I know. We just need to see some positive movement.

Can we please see Adu and Torres for a full 90? I think they might be the only guys on this team who can dribble past the opposition and create at this point. For the love of McGod, Adu and Torres! And show us some heart!

Set up a solid back four and play all the kids for experience. Not like the result will matter or we can come out of this tourney looking any worse....

    ------------------------Guzan--------------------------

    ----Spector-----Gooch-------DeMerit-----Boca-------

    ------------------------Bradley------------------------

    ----------Feilhaber-----------------------Torres------

    --------------------------Adu---------------------------

    -----------------Davies------------Altidore-------------

Does anyone else feel like Bob Bradley doesn't play to our strengths? I would really like to see a 4-5-1 of sorts with MBradley, Dempsey and Donovan all in central midfield - the obvious problem there is that we don't have any decent wingers left.

So basically, we're short in talented midfielders, both central and wide. We have a couple of very good players (Dempsey and Donovan) who are capable of both. So...we play them wide? That seems backwards to me, like a baseball team with a great defensive player who can play anywhere on the infield...and putting him at 1B, while an average defender players SS (sup, Jeter). Throw the questionable players (Adu, Torres, etc) out on the wings.

Not a bad idea, but who is the general? That is the only problem I see with playing lando and demps in the CM together. We need someone with some bite to them who can control the tempo, and I dont see that as being Bradley.

Nor is it Clark, and it is surely not Torres, Adu, Edu, Feilhaber, Beas, or whats his name.

But of course - none of this addresses the fact that we dont seem to have anyone that can get behind the defense or is able to hold the ball up to get us transitioned into the attack.

But what I am saying is that we seem to have a good number of twinkle toes 'creative' mids. These players can all play in the hole or on the wing as long as they have some discipline - as you said.

I dont know - we have a lot of problems. The outside backs, the lack of a general with experience in the CM, and up top... Yikes! I dont know - we may be in trouble for a little while.

Celtic paid West Brom £2 million for Tony Mowbray, so I'd assume it would be less than that. Or maybe they would allow him to do both?

    ha-ha! That's OUR cocky mid/forward.

I have to say, Dempsey looks like he is a little pissed off about something while he is out there, and it isn't so much the competition. More like something smells like cat shit, and it's Bob's "plan".

I would like to see Dempsey performing better for the mnt. Then perhaps he would have reason to call out bradley.
