I feel a bit like I'm watching an old game show and the announcer needs to ask - "Will the real USMNT please stand up".

They had a bad game, guys. We have injuries, we have key players who can't get a first team match with their clubs, we have guys who are shattered after EPL and French L1 seasons. We played a very organized Costa Rica club and got spanked. We played a very orgainized Honduras club and beat them.

Bradley has a brilliant record -- especially since January 2008. Do we have to beat everyone 3-0 for the guy to get some slack? I dearly hope he'll stay until after WC2010. Sorry for the rant, but the Klinsmann groupies are getting to me.

When we should win 3-0, yes. He didn't have to start Pablo and Clark in the middle. And as evidenced on the pitch, we got opporunities in droves once he made the change.

Not everyone that criticizes Bradley is a Klinsmann groupie. Just like you're not a terrorist or anti-American.

Cute! No, I just had read about 4 or 5 posts on other sites clamoring for Klinsmann, and it got to me. Neither you nor BarryP is as weird as those guys are.

It's called "creativity", and I don't know if I blame the players or the gaffer more sometimes. But for now, I am going with the Gaffer.

Remember these numbers, 2-0-2-2. Thank you.

Plenty of positives, but none bigger than the 3 points. After tomorrow Honduras will have 7 pts. and Mexico will have 6. With only 2 home games left a draw or loss would have been disasterous.

I know its too much to ask for Spector to stay healty for a whole year, but when he is fit he is the most talented defender we have (I agree with Oms, I believe he can play LB). It's brutal when a kid this good and at his age can't stay injury free.

At this point I would have to favor Bradley staying through the WC, but I think it's fair to criticize him. HD, I looked up the results since 1/08 and the team has a record 13 wins, 3 draws, 4 losses. However, of the 13 wins the US has beaten Barbados, Cuba, Guatemala, T&T, and Sweden's "C" team twice each. I know it's been a time of transition for the squad, but I wouldn't use the term brilliant by any means.

And the four teams we lost to during that stretch, SCJ? [just to be fair and balanced]

Don't know how many of you read Steve Davis's article on espn.com. It made some of the same points that are being made here.

I do agree that the U.S. needs to get a chip on its shoulder again. I've always thought that the U.S. team's sum has been greater than its parts. The players know when they take the field that they are not only playing for their country, but playing to prove the legitimacy of U.S. soccer. That chip may be wearing off a little bit. If it is, the next few weeks should be a wake up call.
However, I do still feel that U.S. soccer in general is progressing. If someone had told me in 2006 that we would be in this spot, poised to qualify with a few good results and on our way to the Confederations Cup, I think I would have taken that. McBride and Reyna aren't walking through that door.
It's obvious that our talent pool isn't where it needs to be, but that isn't solved overnight and I still tend to believe it is developing. It's not developing at the rapid rate that many would like/expect, but that's not realistic to expect until the sport becomes more popular and youth instruction becomes better.
Until the talent pool is improved, we can't expect to just replace a McBride or a Reyna and not lose a step. I know it's been a few years, but Altidore's going to take time (obviously) and Ching was never going to step in and fill McBride's enormous shoes. Bradley has developed well in CM, and if Klestan hadn't taken a dramatic dip in form nobody would really be worried about the future at CM right now, not to mention Edu's injury.
I'm really rambling right now. But I guess my point is I just don't get the panic. It shows progress that the US is on the verge of qualifying for another World Cup despite probably losing the team's two best players from the last run, yet people are going nuts because the team had a pitiful performance in Costa Rica (turning 0-6-1 into 0-7-1). I know not too many people on here are panicking, but I'm sick of seeing/hearing all the negativity.

My concern is that we've looked like a different team ever since Nowak left. I know there are logical explanations for that, but if they dont start to look sharper soon, I'm going to be concerned that it was Nowak actually doing the lions share of the coaching these past few years. He had the Olympic team playing some nice footy.
