Let's get off to a great start tonight. Fulham may be my passion (since 2001) but the Fire is my first love (1998)

    FIRE-2

    FCD-0

Here's hoping McBride finds the back of the net tonight.

What's that series between the two called? Has to do with flames or something... Bonfire of the Vanities?

Well he did, but not exactly. I always think of a pk goal as deserving an asterisk. Especially McBrides.
    - somehow it's not the same as Danny Murphy's and I just cant explain why.

But Chicago certainly gave Dallas what's what, 3-1. Blanco came in late but served up one of his own in ET.

Crew from a late GBS goal came away from Houston's pitiful sandbox with a draw and a Robbie Rogers hamstring tweak. Thanks a lot, Dynamo FO!

Toronto served notice on the rest of the East that things are different now. Beat KC, easily from reports. I dunno... fifty-fifty it's psych.

Rev's 'frustrate' Quakes at their house, 1-0. Good to see the old Quakes the rest of us knew and loved... and beat like a drum.

Chivas beat Rapids 2-1 at home. Good game; look for Chivas to remain near/at top of list most all season. Right now, have to say it's between them and Houston with Colorado trying to claw past the two. Home Depot pitch actually looks pretty good for the first since.. well, ever.

ah, Steve... can you think of a reason WHY I would say that about McBride? Nothing to do with the team he's with... I'd say the same if he was at Columbus

I'm glad to see these threads are back, 'fog. And I like your mixture of news and commentary.

I caught about 25 minutes of the Colorado-CUSA match. Enjoyed the CO defender heading the ball [while under no pressure] directly to the feet of the CUSA midfielder who had scored about 3 minutes earlier, only to watch him score again. Sorry I missed the Crew match, but music is a cool mistress 8)

You really didnt miss much. Both teams looked like they were uncomfortable putting together a coherent attack.. sorta like if they were playing the match on Malibu Beach. Think about this... it would have been a far prettier match to watch if it had been played at XBox360 field. I shit you not.

    - sidenote: Marshall headed the ball into the net from GBS corner but it was called back because he shrugged off the terriers that had fastened themselves to him before he jumped for the ball. .. cruelty to ankle biting critters.

Speaking of 'The Beach', this just in:
The first leg of the CCCCC {Coast to Coast Clueless Calamity Cup} played to a 2-2 draw: Donovan, having scored the game tying goal, spoke to the press briefly then retired to his back porch to sip margaritas and watch the surf roll while he pondered the meaning of life.

DCU has to be regarded the leader for actually scoring two away. I'm not sure of the rematch date but I assume both clubs will work hard to trade away enough talent to make the rematch score either 5-5 or 0-0.

In an attempt to outdo FC Dallas in Frisco and two LA teams in Carson, Houston is apparantly playing their games in Galveston. Terrible choice for your kickoff game. Should've been played in Columbus in front of the defending champs fans or picked another match entirely. At least the Cougar High logos and footballs stripes were absent.

I'm trying to give this MLS thing a chance but I think I see my mistake. I should wait and tune in after a month or two. Let 'em shake off the rust and get into some form first. It might make a better first impression than what I experienced Saturday night.

And terrible....the Chicago keeper. WTF was that?!?! But on the other hand, that kid in KC had two cracker goals in defeat.

Ag, just accept that the US-based game is different:

    1. Because of the summer schedule and the resultant heat, the pace is more akin to Spain or South America than it is to England.
    2. Because there's not as much slavery to continental styles, you don't see a lot of the possession game. The only time you'll see as much goalmouth to goalmouth action in the English game is when both teams need a win to stave off relegation or when a cup tie is being contested and nobody cares about goal difference.

And yes, early season means a lot. Remember opening day at Hull? Remember last Saturday? Early season means a lot in the Prem as well.

The only thing that MLS is really missing, for my money, is a reserve and youth league set up like in Europe. If you're in the first team squad and not starting much, you get hardly any competitive match time. You don't get better and, even if you do, your boss doesn't see you playing better in a competitive match. For that reason, a lot of guys are not breaking through, and a lot of guys who aren't really performing to their top level stay in the lineups.

But the game is fun; give it a shot.

Watching Seattle play on opening day, I felt like I was watching a European team. Yeah, things will slow down in the summer, but things are getting better and better every year.

The reffing, on the other hand, is still shambolic. Yellow-card fouls are sometimes called as fouls and red card fouls may get a yellow. The MLS makes the SPL look like Serie A when it comes to physicality.

I gotta give it to Cooper, regardless of how exciting Montero's coal was.

A bit off topic,I thought Seattle's green and purple unis were just heinous at the beginning, in keeping with Seahawk and Mariner ugly uni tie ins., Although they look better on the pitch. Any other opinions?

Great opening game by the Fuego despite the goal that started it all by Cooper.

This year I bought season tickets to the Fire for the first time. It helps that McGod will be playing a whole season, but what really did it was the fact that my season ticket in the upper terrace was ONLY $99. Are you kidding me?

I not only bought two tickets, I convinced everyone who sits around me at work to buy them as well. As a result we now have a group of 10 accounts and 12 people going to every regular season home game.

I can't wait for the home opener!

Cooper's goal was pretty sweet. I wish I could have really seen how far Busch was off his line. Sweet goal aside, congrats to the Fire on a quality win. Great to see Mapp get off to a positive start. I've given him crap the past two seasons.

I know they play for the "Brimstone Cup" or "Brimstone Trophy" or something like that. Its been forever since the Fire have won the season series anyways.
