Troy drop the game to SoMiss in OT. I actually watched my first college pointy ball of the season last night, catching the entire 2nd half. A spirited encounter that culminated with a splendid come from ahead defeat from the Trojans.

dtwon! I will happily pony up the dosh for a beer as soon as you find your way down here.

Here's hoping the rest of the bowl season is as entertaining as the NAWLINS Bowl was.

If you've been channel surfing and have been lucky enough to catch the second half or final quarter of some of these games, they've been quite good.. Sorry SamStej, Northwestern gave as good as they got at the Alamo Dome last night only to come up short in overtime. Rutgers won a close game over NC State for Optimizer's donation.

I'm off to a tailgate at the Murph (won't call it by it corporate name) in San Diego w/about 50 Duck fans for the Oklahoma State v Oregon Holiday Bowl. Will be a high scoring affair w/2 of the best offenses in the country.

This bowl season has featured some close matches. Good deal -- and now, in an effort to boost their prime time ratings, ESPN is carrying My Terrapins in the Ho-de-doo-dah-day Bowl LIVE ... at 2:30 this afternoon. I guess it's better than playing in Boise at night!

Don, I will happily accept the beer. I was able to go home and my wife and I were able to go to the game with my Dad. It was a great time, other than WR from So Miss breaking his leg.

I should be in SA sometime in July.

Well that Mizzou-NU game was quite entertaining at the very least... And i was pretty excited when the most accurate kicker in the history of the NCAA missed the game winning 44 yarder, I really thought that the 'cats would be able to pull it out after that.

One wonders what would have happened had Villareal (Northwestern's kicker) made that extra point...

and the mighty Terrapins led by their coach Haystacks Calhoun [Pettyfog may remember him] beat Nevada 42-35.

College football is becoming a joke. Since they began stopping the clock every time someone farted, the games last forever. Even a ground-oriented offense like Maryland's can't eat up the clock, when they stop the clock each time the chains move.

In this particular game, the sides racked up more than 900 yards of total offense and got 46 first downs. This is about twice the numbers you would have seen 25 years ago. Add this to the 14 game seasons, not to mention the overtime circus that can result in 75 to 74 games, and game, season, and career statistics mean absolutely nothing. What does 300 completions or 1000 yards mean when both teams can get 470 yards of TO.

Sorry, looking at that putrid field got me kinda grumpy.

Hey, we won though, so a dancing banana for the Terps! Woo and also hoo!

My ears are still ringing because we sat literally next to the Oregon band. My voice is gone from all the yelling. My head hurts because people from Oregon think Jose Cuervo is good tequila (kept telling them it's the Pabst Blue Ribbon of tequila). A buddy of my brother was making something called Duck Punch at the tailgate. All in all a great night in San Diego as the Ducks wore down Okie State 42-31 (Pac-10 is now 3-0  , not bad for a down year).

Rice wins a bowl game, and puts a whooping on some directional school from Michigan in the process, big ups to your alma mater Mo.

HD, I did warn you about that blue field in Boise. I went to Boise for a wedding years ago, and when I made a crack about it you'd think I said something sacreligious, that patch of fake blue field is holy ground for those people. Glad to see your Terps go all that way and get a win.

Good win for the Ducks, beating a VERY GOOD Okie State team. First loss by the Big 12 in bowl games.

Don, don't be so hard on college football - it still has alot of things right (rule-wise) that the NFL has wrong, and the fans and pageantry always make it special - the closest thing that America has to the scale of the Beautiful Game in Europe.

Nice win for the Scarlet Knights in the (Corporate Sponsor) Bowl (which I only just got to watch last night). Hate to say it but it probably would've been a different story if NC State's starting QB hadn't gotten hurt late in the first half; he was giving the RU defense FITS. They're going to make some noise in the ACC in the next few years if that kid keeps developing.

The Big East is now 3-0 in bowl games, USF previously blowing out Memphis and WVU edging UNC (and I will NOT miss seeing Pat White lining up for the Mountaineers). Pitt against Oregon State in the Sun Bowl this afternoon, Cincy against carpetbaggers Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl tomorrow, and UConn against Buffalo in the International Bowl on Saturday. Here's hoping for 6-0. :D

(Oh, also, Papa John's pizza is overrated.)

Well USC performed their annual beat down of another inferior Big Joke er' Big 10 team. I'll give PSU a some credit for coming out after being down 31-7 at half and playing w/pride in the second.

With the win the PAC-10 finishes 5-0 to everyone's surprise....east of Tucson. There is a reason USC loses in conference and never out of it.

I usually watch the Rose Bowl, but the combination of hearing those irritating horn fanfares from SC and seeing the ugliest uniforms in pointy football kept me away.

I'm never surprised with the Big10 loses to the PAC-10. It's been the best example of how little coaches and the media actually know about college football for the last 30 or 40 years.

Unfortunately Big 10 schools draw a lot of fans, which in bowl games equals money. So we'll see more of this crap until the system is changed.

Can't wait to see Ohio State lose big to Texas...

So what's worse to watch? Minor League Slavery playing on a gridiron complete with football markings or Boise's blue turf.

    21-0 Utes over 'bama 1q 4:00

    heh....

says something about bama, which I despise, even if they come back.

And yes... I'm as pissed off about overrated Big 10 as anyone else is. Why I wanted Cincy win.

Oh well... it's why they play the games.
And WTF is that about? Blue Turf dont bother me... and you just slipped to a tie with the Whitesbuoy on the unrealistic expectations scale.

Glass is always half empty for guys like you.

    Florida v Oklahoma predictions

    There will be 4 teams come friday that will feel they have a right to a piece of the National Title;

    1) USC; Think they are the best, not just because of my obvious West-Coast bias. I Truly believe only Florida would have a chance.

    2) Texas; The Longhorns pulled out the Fiesta Bowl (sorry Buckeye fans) and if Oklahoma wins the Horns fans will sick since they will have the same record and beat OU on a neutral field by 10.

    3) Utah; Undefeated and an ass-whooping of Bama gives them their argument. Just an aside there isn't too many things in sports better than watching the great dicktator (correct spelling) Nick Saban scream and pout and above all lose.

    4) Last but not least the winner of Florida v Oklahoma manana. From point 1 it's obvious that I'm picking the Gators... 42-31. If Ohio State wasn't around OU would be getting all the heat for not winning a big game in awhile. Add to that some prime quotes from an OU defensive back saying Tebow is easy to prepare for and would be the 4th best qb in the Big 12 and you know Florida will be ready to go.

Undefeated BCS finalist wins National Title!

    Nah, just zoomin' ya, SCJ.

From what I understand from my brother, there is no discussion about who the winnah is. Voters are required to pick the winner of the FL/OK game as the winner of the joke "National Title" game. The AP evidenly was barred from participating after they picked USC over LSU a few years back.

I like to think of the BCS committee and the NCAA lackeys who make this crap happen every year personified by Fred Gwynne as the judge in My Cousin Vinny: "Counselor, what's a Ute?"

Actually, the AP still picks its own National Champion, regardless of the BCS rankings or the BCS title game. So, the AP could very well (if it votes as such) pick Utah or Texas as its champion. Coaches are required to pick the winner of the NC game as champion.

The fallout from fiasco from a few years ago (take your pick) resulted in the AP poll (by its own choice, out of disgust) no longer being used in BCS calculations/standings.
