I have the L'pool and Villa matches on DVD. Does anyone know of a way to post them on the internet for people to watch? Would it even be legal?

Can't answer the 'how' question Cincy. I'm sure it's not 'legal' to show an entire match w/out permission.

    a) Not offhand. Generally speaking, you have to convert the files, run those on hard drive with software to allow streaming and have the UPSTREAM bandwidth to allow glitchless viewing. It's no accident that Residential Broadband UPSTREAM bandwidth is limited to just enough for one stream. Prevents using home PC an a 'net server.
    - That's why most fans share those games by postal services.

    b) Definitely not legal. I've heard about one site that went underground to allow this for insider fans.

Setanta, at one time, was going to allow subscriber replay streaming of full games but I'm not sure they actually do this. Even Fulham doesnt have the streaming rights to their full games, IIRC. That's specified in TV contracts

As Sven would say "It's a legal minefield" but about what I expected.

Pettyfog, having been only recently dragged into the 21st century, I'm not sure if I could even post them. Even with Setanta and Skysports blessing I would be lost trying to perform the tasks you laid out above.

Thanks VB! I've been looking for a site like that but couldn't find one.

And by the way, if any of you are hiding my USB flash drive from me, I'd really appreciate it if you could give it back.

I confess, Josh. I stole if from you that time when we wre in Casablanca and, then when I was in Kuala Lumpur, I traded it to Pettyfog for his complete set of Sarah Palin dinnerware.

To add some background on this general topic:

Both matches mentioned above are freely available via internet torrents. Along with a very wide selection of pretty much any game of interest in England, Europe etc., plus EPL review shows and hundreds of hours of other stuff.

That scene has been operating a bit off the radar, though not IMHO really underground, for quite some time. Adventurous types can dip a toe into the Maxxed football forums and learn their way around. And yes there are all kinds of technical issues that will come up in dealing with digital video - the average person can certainly slash his/her way thru that jungle but not without effort.

I'll leave it there because to confirm what everyone else has said, none of it is legal. I have never heard of any enforcement over previously-recorded sports events, but the potential risks, however unlikely, are still always there for a multi-thousand-dollar lawsuit a la some of the horror stories around music & movie downloads that are occasionally covered in the news.

One would think that at some point the broadcasters would try to monetize this stuff via something like the Itunes store; but i dunno.

Snail-mail/sneakernet DVD exchange groups exist for concert bootlegs; anyone know of something like that for football stuff??
