Well put! Glad to see the Crew win. Its nice to see the most consistent team actually win the trophy this time. Congrats to the Crew, Sigi, and the fans in Columbus! Oh and it was probably the highest quality of play I've seen in an MLS match in a long time if not ever. Again congrats to the MASSIVE Crew!

GBS with three MORE assists -- that last flick to Frankie was sublime.

    Hejduk with the final goal.

Marshall trying to drill a hole through the net on goal #2.

One of the few professional championship games in ANY sport that was a joy to watch for those of us without a horse in the race. Good stuff.

All hail YELLOW SUBMARINE USA! Well played and well deserved.

PF I think you meant the Crew are MASSIVE

No celebration for the red tonight. Dane Richards was dangerous but Schelotto was magic. Crew's immediate recapture of the lead on Chad Marshall's hearder had to be gutting to NY and may well go down as the play of the match. Schelotto's flick to Hejduk was awfully pretty though.

Great display and year by the Massives. Glad to see the best team win the cup this year, and the Crew were the best team.

If RBNY would have walked ofwith the cup after backing into the playoffs and playing goalpost defense, I would have felt bad for the integrity of the championship. Don't mean to wind up the RBNY fans here, they had a good run, they ust weren't championship caliebr.

Congrats to Sigi, and the standing O for Schelotto was a nice touch.

I was watching this at Nevada Smith's. It was filled, with some people having to wait on line to get in. Everyone was in Red Bulls/Metros gear. It was painful to watch the last 40 minutes or so. But whatever. I didn't think we'd get this far, nobody did. I think it's just something to build off of for next year. At least we have our first trophy, no matter how small it is.

Question from a neophyte...is the MLS now starting to take part in the time-honored American sports tradition of having nearly every TV analyst/colorman be ridiculously biased towards New York teams?

I started watching the game at about the 30-minute mark. Come halftime, the talking heads are going on and on about how New York is dominating the game. I'm scratching my head, wondering if they were watching the same game I am. Then, they flashed the first half stats on the screen. The Crew led in every nearly every statistical category. If memory serves, NY had ZERO shots on goal.

Now, I'm relatively new to this game...not a lifelong fan like most on this board. So I don't have much confidence in my own analysis. But it sure seemed strange to hear how NY was "the far better team" in the first half.

(not to hijack the Crew thread)...but I believe that would pertain to Northeastern teams in general. i.e. Boston (New Eng. Revs).

Worst part of the whole event, thousands of empty seats. Another reason a play-off format has its detractors. It seems the league got a few steps ahead of themselves with the introduction of a neutral site championship. This ain't the Champions League.

JP-STL I am a Crew fan and I thought NYRB were the better team in the first half but their finishing was poor. If you look at just the statistics I think the only shot NY had on goal for the entire match was the one they scored but in my opinion they were in positions to score more often then the Crew were in the first half.

Big ups to the Crew, and GBS flip pass to Frankie was a beauty. Maybe our fearless moderator can put a link to the Columbus paper(s), curious on what kind of coverage they received.

The attendance said 27,000, but it seemed more along the lines 22-23k actually on hand. I know it's late November, but if you're going to have a playoff the top seeded teams should have homefield throughout.

great photos Lax, how was the atmosphere?

What can I say? Congrats to the Crew; GBS was just on a different level from everyone else with regards to his vision and passing.

I think the whole "bailed out by the post" thing is stupid though. Except for the ball coming back into play, hitting the post or the crossbar is the same thing as missing high or wide; if RSL wanted to play in the championship game, they should've put their shots on goal.

There were a ton of people on the berm though, so there's one reason for the empty seats.

I heard the cheapest ticket was going for $45! If they played at a bigger stadium like they did at RFK last year, their would have been a ton more people.
