I was also pleased to see Tab Ramos -- for me the most-talented American footballer ever -- get the U-21s.

Thanks for posting Mo, glad to see out of the box thinking w/this hire. Great college coaches no matter the sport are first and foremost teachers, and to bring a National title to Akron is testament to that.

I agree Joe, and this gives me way more confidence in Klinsmann and the future for US soccer. I am so relieved that the College game, via a college coach appointment, has been given this vote of confidence. I know the college game isnt the answer to improving US soccer, but the training resources and funds that are available to college athletes cant be taken for granted. MLS clubs and certainly lower tier pro clubs will have difficulty competing with a lot of the things that colleges can provide their athletes. And even if they could, there still isnt enough of them for a country our size. College athletic facilities are a significant resource that US soccer needs to continue to utilize.

What Porter is good at, and the reason why I think he was appointed U23 coach, is scouting talent that is suited to his type of play. Face it, not until the last few years could he have a hope in hell of competing with big soccer schools like NC, Virginia, or UCLA when it came to recruiting. He turned Akron into a powerhouse without top drawer recruits because he has vision. Also, the good colleges coaches know the U18 - U22 talent pool probably better than anyone so that is another reason why appointing a college coach was such a good move for the US. I cant wait for Olympic qualifying to start.
