The Sarah Palin scandal thread

Guys, I fully expect Palin to be standing just as tall tomorrow afternoon as she is right now. The deer-in-the-headlights interviews have accomplished one thing very much in her favor: they have so lowered the expectation of the quality of her performance, that's it is almost impossible NOT to meet or exceed them. Think I'm shining you on?

In presidential debate one, 8 years ago, GWB was expected to get hammered by Gore. Bush had already proven himself to be woefully out of touch and way behind the VP in the intellect territory. The bar was set so low for him that despite the fact that he

(a) used as an example of his ability to build consensus working with the Texas legislature to craft a bi-partisan education bill [while neglecting to say that he ultimately vetoed it] AND
(b) cited as example of his executive experience the awesome gubenatorial responsibility of appointing state judges [who are, of course, directly elected in Texas] AND

1. was challenged on neither of these statements by the press
2. was adjudged to have done much better than Gore in the debate [I guess because he didn't try to shave with the microphone.]

In the lead up to those debates, right-wing commentators lambasted the MSM for picking on Bush because he wasn't part of the "east coast elite" [forget Yale, Kennebunkport, father a VP, grandfather a senator], and said that they'd use the debates as a way to show their favoritism for Democrats. As a result, no questioner challenged Bush about ANYTHING he said that was exagerrated or wrong during the campaign.

I expect a rerun tonight. Why? Fox and its acolytes is doing the same PR job for Palin that they did on Bush AND she's a hell of a lot smarter and tougher than he was then.
