.. was probably one of the books in the famous early 20th century series about the boy inventor/adventurer.
But the first RATIONAL mention of it I read was in 'After Worlds Collide' the sequel to 'When Worlds Collide' which was a popular apocalyptic book and movie. Which {After Worlds..} STILL should be made a movie.
At the time of reading it, in the fifties I pictured a P51 Mustang {still one of the sexiest looking planes ever built} with an electric motor, instead of the Rolls engine.

Now it's a reality, just waiting for a battery to make it practical.

Like the LiSi nanotech battery, in development.

    1. Tom Swift
    2. When Worlds Collide
    3. P51 Mustang [and roger on the sexy looking. The P51, the P38, and the SR71 still get my heart rate up.]

Just to show you how old you are, SR 71 to me is a highway in Appalachian Ohio.

and, P-38 used to be the can opener you found in K-rations. Please don't ask me to explain K-rations to you.
