oh, please Lord no. Not the Aggie Hair Model! [sorry, FulhamAg]

It appears that the Texas Governor has got his "I'm tough" cowboy boots on.

    LINK

    Yee haw!

Texas ignored the pleas of the World Court and the government of Mexico to execute this dude. The crime merited the punishment if any crime does, but I can't help thinking Governor Hairdo is timing this to appeal to the Republican hard right. Let's hope no Texans get busted for shoplifting in Laredo!

Here's an interesting excerpt from the article:

My only question is why this article is in Reuters "Business and Finance" section.

Let's review then, the Texas' penal system inmate purge about 10 years ago when they let out a serial rapist-killer to perfect his art.

Doesnt matter WHO the Gov is... US, state and Fed, has no business paying attention to the World or European courts. Or will it work both ways and USSC now considers the German ruling that you cannot outlaw smoking in a small privately owned bar?

And CERTAINLY pay no attention to Canada, where the Bus Beheader was arraigned for SECOND DEGREE MURDER!

Certainly that would qualify as first degree, anywhere, whether or not the guy was suspected insane.

Dammit, Don. Embed those long links. It AINT rocket science.
And BTW: This mention of 'hair' wouldnt be subconsciously related to 'Silky Pony's' problem would it?
    heh....

On McCain VP, logical elimination... if Romney cant get it... is Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Though that leaves Alaska with no high profile schoolmarm watching the misbehavers in Alaska GOP.

    1. 'fog. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO EMBED LINKS. I'm just pleased I can type.

    2. Republicans talk a great game [Libby Dole, Colin Powell, Conde Rice], but they're too smart to put a woman or an African-American on their national ticket. Palin does appear to be THE rising star in Alaska politics, though.

Oh, and Thanks 'fog and Mo for [predictably] missing the point. Perhaps you also missed this in my original post:

or does that not fit your profile of a liberal?

Just curious, do you actually know the difference between first and second degree murder? Or are your panties in a bunch because you think the heinousness of the crime deserves the harshest framework for punishment?

Two facts point to the fact that this is a second degree murder case:

#1 - They didn't know each other, spent maybe an hour or more on the bus together, presumably didn't communicate in any significant way.

#2 - The dude is batshit insane.

    If there's no pre-meditation, there's no first-degree.

Per the Canadian Criminal Code, murder is first degree if it is "planned and deliberate"; when the victim is a member of a protected class of individuals including police officers, prison guards and the like; when it occurs during the course of a hijacking, sexual assault or kidnapping; when it occurs while the defendant was attempting to cause the victim to fear for the safety of the victim or someone known to the victim; when it occurs during terrorist activity; when it occurs while using explosives in association with a criminal organization; or when it occurs while the defendant is committing an intimidation crime.

Presumably there's Canadian case law on what's required to constitute "planned and deliberate" but I certainly don't know what it is.

I was responding to the content of your linked article not to what you specifically said. I'll give you more attention next time, dear.

That being said, I often do have trouble understanding what you and 'fog are talking about.

I hardly ever understand what 'fog is on about myself.

Oh, and thanks for the "dear." I needed a smile this morning.

Don't feel bad; I don't genuinely believe he actually tries to make his rants comprehensible.
